It's good. I'd rather we'd have gotten him alive, cowering in a hole ala Saddam, but hey. |

Hey, cheers! About **** time. Almost makes me wish I believed in an afterlife, though. To quote Keelor and Cuddy... Blue Rodeo, Piranha Pool wrote: You're always talking about the here and after But it don't make much sense to me Still for all the men that you've condemned Well I hope there's some kind of heaven And there's got to be some kind of hell for you Would it be poor taste to put the bastard's head on a pike and plant it in the main city square of Kandahar? |

Rynar wrote: And then, not a damned thing changed. Perhaps not right away, and maybe not at all. But i find it odd that a person who focuses so much on the individual over the collective would underestimate the importance of one man. Whether as a symbol of victory for the west, or a martyr to continue the cause for extremist Islam, or simply to show the world you followed through after being attacked, there are plenty of reasons this could change things for better or worse. Never underestimate the importance of a single man with an idea and a receptive audience. |

That was some awkward phrasing by the reporter right after the speech: "apparently his body was taken by special forces...to our chief correspondent Chuck <Somebody> we go" |

Obama wrote: Justice has been done. This brings us back to the Medieval ages when the King was judge, jury, and executioner... Remings me of Obama speaking about Bradley Manning: Quote: He broke the law.

Some people just need killin'. It's all fine to bring someone in if you can catch them alive, sure. This was a military operation, not a police one. And nobody can argue he didn't have it coming. |

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm not going to be convinced until I see the long form death certificate. |

Talya wrote: Some people just need killin'. I agree, but his viewpoints still are rather Medieval. He could have said "We had difficulty apprehending him, and in the ensuing fight he was killed". Instead he made claims about justice, which the President should know is only after an impartial court trial. |

Oh look on the bright side. At least you didn't have to endure Bush speaking about it. Obama can, at least, pronounce his own language. (No,I don't mean Bantu.) |

Also it was a total KS. Bush was camping the spawn area for 8 entire years. |

I heard a radio talk show host actually say ... right after Obama's speech, that 'A special forces unit led by President Obama killed Osama Bin Laden, and took possession of his body....' Representative Norm Dicks, from Washingtons 6th Congressional district then came on the same station, and basically pronounced that the war on terror was over and we won. Don't get me wrong... I'm happy the guy is dead, but lets not look at his as anything more than what it is... a revenge killing of a powerless figurehead. Bin Laden hasn't been a force in Al Qaeda for many years. |

Repercussions will come in many places in many ways. I am not saying we should not have done it, I'm very much in favor of this hellion going to Allah for his sins, but he goes in the eyes of his people as a martyr. We claim this is not a war against Islam, but many of that faith consider the presence of US troops in the Arab world just that. Vigilance should remain very high for months to let our forces take advantage of the high emotional state brought on by bin Laden's death to help his organization reap the whirlwind in their attempts to avenge his death. |

A figurehead still has influence. If nothing else, a few thousand families have a bit of closure right now. |

Look at this way. Many people who have loved ones murdered don't find justice until they go through the appeals process while on death-row. |

Guess they just had to wait till they killed a guy who looked like Osama did a decade ago. Beggars can't be choosers...but I can Mr. Burton. |
