http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2009/1 ... rzenegger/ Quote: California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is ticked off.
He’s tired of signing bills that don’t address the pet causes he deems important. So when another unworthy bill crossed his desk recently for signing — addressing funding issues for the Port of San Francisco — the guv vetoed it and sent lawmakers a little note saying why. Only the note said a little more than lawmakers were expecting. Buried in the text was a hidden message directed at State Assemblyman Tom Ammiano, author of the bill, according to the San Francisco Bay Guardian. |

Hardly petty, in my opinion. California's legislature needs that kind of thing to happen more often. |

I have to say that Arnold's action is about sixteen steps higher on the maturity scale than Ammiano's. |

Since it's had zero impact, why bother lying to yourself saying that things will eventually change? Sometimes hostility can undermine your goals. But if the citizens are on your side, it might make it easier to kick the opposition out of office next election once the people see the sides clearly. |

Nice guys finish last, the saying goes, or else tactics like this wouldn't work. For instance, nice guys generally lose the elections to start with, and amiable sorts just don't make it very far. It's really sad, but I really think that one needs to be a jerk in order to get ahead in politics. |

I would like to point out, Arnold's attempt was much more subtle, as it did not have odd right margins. |

It was clever. However, I'm betting one of his staffers came up with the idea and set it up. The question is whether he told the Governor about it first, and if the governor noticed it before he signed it. |

Why hasn't there been the media outrage at what this clown was yelling at the Governor in previous meetings. Kiss my gay *** doesn't count as disrespectful anymore? |

No. He's gay, so he can make gay jokes. |

I believe Hannibal is questioning why this particular politician, a democrat in this case, was not lambasted in the press for the same outrageous behavior as the republican from SC, which received national attention. I think the obvious answer is that one is at the federal level and one at the state (perhaps made the news in CA, no clue). |

My point was that the democrat was not (sadly) acting much differently than many other politicians and so therefore his actions weren't particularly news worthy. Nor probably would have Arnold's actions been noteworthy had he performed a similar retort in a more normal manner. I believe there are 2 things that caused news organizations to pick it up. The use of the word "****" and the unique method of delivery. Neither of which were "outrage" but "huh, that's not something you see every day. I bet if we run a news article on that people will buy our product". |

In my own mind I'm questioning why any of it is noteworthy, since it seems to be the norm for how politics are handled. I guess the Obama "liar" incident stands out to me as another example of the two faced nature of things. The suckling at Barrys teat also bothers me, but considering how thuggish the administraton is, I guess it's better then being on their enemy list. |

Isn't the difference that the Carolina guy did it in Congress, during a speech? That's the breech of decorum that bugged people. Telling Arnold to kiss a gay *** outside of chambers, etc., doesn't carry as much weight. Gay Assemblyman from SF wrote: “This wasn’t the Legislative Chambers, where you have to put up with this ****,” Ammiano said.. “It’s like this guy just showed up and took a big dump in my living room.” He came to a Democratic Party "gala" of some sort, in a hotel. Plenty of leeway there to tell him to **** off. |

It's kind of an interesting story. Former S.F. Mayor Willie Brown found out that Arnie was staying at the hotel where the gala was being held; apparently, they're friends, and Willie asked Arnie to come down and say a few words as a favor. Arnie took the time to do so, and was treated like that by Ammiano. It's not like Arnie just showed up and barged on stage...and Willie Brown is understandably upset. |
