Kinda knew this was coming. A nail that sticks too far out asks to be hammered :)

I wonder if we are going to find out later that these arrests were just boneheads that had zombie-bots on their systems that were controlled by LOIC.

Regardless, I don't have a lot of faith that they will be able to prove much beyond their access to the IRC chat rooms. It will be interesting to see what is presented as evidence.

I wonder if there will be retaliation for the arrests or we finally learn that anon is just a bunch of script kiddies with no real balls/power.

I hope there are retaliation attacks. Then retaliation attacks for the arrests that follow, and so on, until these jackasses finally go away.

I see what you did there - and I agree!

I disagree with Anon and hope them swift and just punishment, and will in turn welcome them when they become middle age businessmen protecting companies from the next generation of hackers, all the while grumbling about "in my day"

I didn't see his name pop up in that article. Now, there was one unidentified person according to this snippet:

Quote:
One individual’s name has been withheld by the court.

However, that likely indicates that the individual was a minor.

I'm not part of 'anon'. I never go to 4chan or shitty places like that. I don't think major institutions should be shut down, hacked, or defaced, although it is a fascinating spectacle to watch.

So EverQuest and farm town don't count as "Major institutions?" If not then what does?

If Anonymous shut down Farmville, there'd be some CMH's going out.

You say you're opposed to hacking of "major institutions," but have bragged about stealing/generating keys for one of the largest MMORPGs, as well as breaking the encryption on an application for (at the time) a major social network. (Unless I'm thinking of someone else.) Thus I was wondering what you considered a major institution.

What? I haven't done either. I did my senior thesis on solving captchas for a social networking site, if that's what you mean. Optical character recognition is not 'hacking'.

I do, however, remember you scripting bots to leverage that captcha to harass and ridicule users on some site.

The accomplishments of Lex were only about half accurate. He did do stuff like that, but it was more of a "big fish, small pond" scenario. It's entirely possible that he doesn't commit various digital mayhem anymore on account of no longer being a bored college student with no one to direct his programming acumen toward real challenges.

No... actually I made a friend adder with the captcha solver and sold it to dozens of customers.

Wait, you didn't con people out of their user names/passwords?

I think he claimed to be stealing game keys or some such.

Yeah, 6 years ago I took people's cd keys, which has nothing to do with hating corporations and defacing websites.

Still, it's black hat type cyber crime. Accessing systems, yada yada.
