You know at this rate I almost can not blame Obama if he has a big ego, the number of yes men, and sycophants laying it on super thick is bordering on the absurd. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/10 ... nea-chief/ Quote: Maybe President Obama will win the Nobel Prize for Literature, too, now that the chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts has declared that "Barack Obama is the most powerful writer since Julius Caesar." Rocco Landesman rendered unto Obama that considerable compliment in a little-noticed speech to a group of art philanthropists in Brooklyn, N.Y., last week, praising the president as an "Optimist in Chief" who is developing "the most arts-supportive administration since Roosevelt." Putting the president in the pantheon with such pencil-pushing powerhouses as the man who was, literally, the Czar of all Czars, Landesman said that since Obama "actually writes his own books," he's the most powerful man to be a true writer in the 2,000 years since Caesar strode the narrow earth. I particularly like the WSJ's comments, trying to find it at work, they looked up other very prolific presidential writers. |

Many of the comments to the original article wished him a similar ending. I wonder who can fill in for Brutus? Hillary, Bidden, Pelosi? |

Caesar was an effective and charismatic orator, but we mostly only know this second or third hand. The ignorance of Rocco Landesman's statements are two-fold: first, Caesar's written material, while competent and above average, isn't spectacular in any literary sense; second, he's comparing Obama to Shakespeare's rendition of Caesar. The irony is staggering on several levels, since there's a heavy editorial hand at work in Obama's memoir (a very heavy editorial hand). And, honestly, Obama doesn't have the native language chops to be placed superior to James Joyce or Herman Melville or J.M Coetzee or the like. Really, the polarity of the statement is just ludicrous: the greater writer since Caesar? That's pretty much the entirety of Western canon sans epic. |

It honestly makes me wonder if people say stuff like this about Obama just to snigger over the jaw-dropping astonishment of people who recognize how absurd it is. |
