First it was the TSA and Planes, then Trains now...

Quote:
PORTLAND, Tenn. – You're probably used to seeing TSA's signature blue uniforms at the airport, but now agents are hitting the interstates to fight terrorism with Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response (VIPR).

"Where is a terrorist more apt to be found? Not these days on an airplane more likely on the interstate," said Tennessee Department of Safety & Homeland Security Commissioner Bill Gibbons.

Tuesday Tennessee was first to deploy VIPR simultaneously at five weigh stations and two bus stations across the state.

Isn't that what police, state troopers, sheriffs, etc. are already for?

We're from the government and we're here to help.

These teams have been conducting their random searches for, what, less than a week? They've already caught just as many terrorists as the TSA in the airports have, in a decade.

For every bus station bathroom stall they search, it will deter a terrorist from hiding there.

I wonder why the Obama administration hates poor people?

Well they know that Black people will never protest against Obama, so they don't have to cater to them. (not all Blacks are poor, but many are)

It's merely a person desperately trying to justify a job that should never have been created in the first place.

Correction: about half of poor people in the United States are white (if you define poor as in poverty)

I agree. It's about time we eliminate the office of the presidency.

You remember those rather heated arguments we had around here when the TSA introduced mandatory backscatter and/or groping? Because I can remember several people around here who torched everyone who complained about the TSA because air travel was voluntary and ostensibly that meant you were volunteering for anything the TSA wants to do to you just by not using alternate long-distance transportation. I also remember those same people berating anyone who suggested that the TSA was going to start pulling this **** with trains and buses. Those were the good old days.

I'm going to predict that taxi services will be hit next, followed eventually by some kind of background check or similar for renewing/obtaining a driver's license. 10th amendment be damned on the latter. They'll just take hostages threaten to withhold highway funds unless the states comply "voluntarily".

So.. Asking people to call authorities if they see something suspicious is suddenly the harbinger of a police state or whatever the currently fashionable hystrionics are just because it's the TSA and has to do with terrorism?

What exactly is the problem here?

Let me list a couple: It's a colossal waste of money and not likely to catch any terrorists.

Those are the problems. I don't see anything in there about them implementing air travel measures on buses or trains, and if they did, so what? The problem with airport security measures is that they're overpriced and a major inconvenience, not that they're somehow intruding upon you.

Like FarSky said, that's what Troopers, Deputies, and cops are already there for. The problem isn't someone doing this; it's that its expensive and unnecessary.
