So? I get never wanting to miss an opportunity to bash Roman Catholic's, but it's their private university. |

that is why they need a special intervention from the government to be made more Muslim friendly. Won't somebody please think of the Muslims! |

Why would you go to a religious university if you're not of that religion? Boggles the mind. I can't imagine the educational opportunities there are particularly incredible. That said, if Quote: As for the creation of a Muslim student group, Banzhaf said the university has an association of Jewish students then yeah, they should probably allow a Muslim student group. They shouldn't have to provide a non-Catholic spot, though. Get over it, or find somewhere off campus. You made the choice to (again, /boggle) attend a Catholic University. And you can't say you're surprised! It's called "Catholic University!" This sounds like something drummed up by an opportunistic lawyer. |

Is it a Jewish (religion) group or a Jewish (ethnicity) group? They could start an Arabic (ethnicity) group. |

To the Muslim students complaining: "Meh. If you don't want to be surrounded by Catholic imagery, don't go to a school called Catholic University." To Catholic University: "Meh. If you don't want to be subject to federal anti-discrimination policies, don't accept federal funding that you know comes with such strings attached." |

This allows us to bash both Muslims and Catholics at the same time. Do they have any Protestant student groups we can rope into this, too? Taoists? Buddhists? PETA? |

I'm curious about this statement RD. To which funds are you referring? Student loans? Research grants? Building loans? |

Basically, my understanding is that when a private university accepts federal funds (and I think that includes participation in federal student loan programs), it becomes subject to the various federal anti-discrimination rules - Title VI, Title IX, EOE stuff, the ADA, etc. And even if they don't accept federal funds of any kind, they can still be stripped of their tax exmpt status if they insist on discriminating anyway. |

So Catholic University is discriminating, RD? |

Oh, I don't know if they're actually discriminating, Vind. I really didn't do more than skim the linked article. I was just noting that if they are discriminating, the fact that they're a private, explicitly Catholic institution doesn't make it legal for them to do so given that they accept federal funds for various things. |

Ahh, the "if they insist on discriminating anyway" threw me. |

Jewish is an ethnicity as well as a religion since from the beginning of history they'd only marry other Jews, and the bloodlines have stayed very intact. It's been proven with DNA. |
