Amazing some one outspoken in law enforcement who has a good idea! (just teasing DE)

And MSNBC is worried about the poor attackers being shot.

As long as it comes with the understanding that if you're gonna be carrying you need to be prepared mentally and physically. I'm down with that.

I think most leos understand the realities involved and that most legal gun owners make their jobs easier not harder.

I've met both types of LE; those that think citizens should carry so when they arrive to pick up the pieces at least they are the criminal's pieces, and those who have a healthy disdain for citizens and believe if citizens are armed, they will make more work for LE.

The latter opinion is usually the "official" position from what I've seen. Those that hold the former opinion are those that haven't fallen into the idea that there's LE, and there's everyone else.

I think this appears to be the official position because it's the official position in a lot of major cities that are known for being hostile to guns in the first place, and because the press prefers to report on cops that oppose citizens with guns rather than those that support it.

This moron is apparently unaware that self-defense as a legal concept is well-established.

Notice he used the words "potential attacker", as if the sheriff in question was suggesting that women shoot men for glancing at their boobs.

When you're being attacked there isn't anything potential about it as it has been realized. Alleged is only used in court because one is trying to prove facts - when one has them in front of them there is only attacker and others.

Funny, I've open carried in front of the philly police substation near the tourist Mecca of Pats and Ginos with zero incident. Even talked to them for a bit cause I was walking my gfs dog. Really I think the idea of oc requires the individual to think about perceptions.

He switches in the next sentence to say "kills an attacker" so I took it to be more of a way of pretending an attacker isn't actually an attacker until after the woman is already raped. I wonder if he'd have a problem with the police waiting to arrest the rapist until after the woman was raped?

Based upon Elmo's written opinion of most police officer's attitudes, I think I'd be insulted Hannibal.

Bonus achieved! I know what Elmo mentioned and I agree. I do have a rather dominant look about me. Id make a lousy undercover officer.
