The Washington Post wrote: The Florida Family Association, a Tampa Bay group, has led a campaign urging companies to pull ads on “All-American Muslim.” The FFA contends that 65 of 67 companies it has targeted have pulled their ads, including Bank of America, the Campbell Soup Co., Dell, Estee Lauder, General Motors, Goodyear, Green Mountain Coffee, McDonalds, Sears, and Wal-Mart. “’All-American Muslim’ is propaganda clearly designed to counter legitimate and present-day concerns about many Muslims who are advancing Islamic fundamentalism and Sharia law,” the Florida group asserts in a letter it asks members to send to TLC advertisers. “The show profiles only Muslims that appear to be ordinary folks while excluding many Islamic believers whose agenda poses a clear and present danger to the liberties and traditional values that the majority of Americans cherish,” the FFA’s letter continues. It was not clear whether the companies cited by the Florida Family Association, which has also targeted shows like MTV’s “Degrassi,” stopped advertising on “All-American Muslim” because of pressure or for other reasons. Emails from Home Depot and Sweet’N Low posted on the Florida Family Association’s website suggest the companies had simply bought one commercial spot, and didn’t cancel any commercials. A spokeswoman for Amway, also cited by the Florida group, denied the company pulled advertising from “All-American Muslim,” and said those reports were “misleading” and “falsely named” Amway. I seriously hope GMC was erroneously added to that list. |

Quick question, who the hell is Green Mountain Coffee and why should I care about where they spend their advertising money? |

Sorry, my patriotic Vermonter instincts kicked in there and caused my knee to jerk without adequate explanation. GMC is a coffee company that started as a cafe in VT and retains its explicit association with the state via the "Green Mountain" tagline (our state motto). Pulling ads in response to pressure from a group of anti-Muslim whackjobs isn't exactly in keeping with their image, their target market, or Vermont's general culture and politics. |

What if they pulled it due to shitty rating? |

I think it's a shame that any of the companies have pulled the advertising. Just another show of bigotry and intolerance. |

I've never watched the show, so I'm not sure how I'd characterize the pulling of the advertisement. My opinion is, I'd applaud any company that pulled advertisement from any and all reality TV shows. |

I don't see this as a big deal either way. FFA's targeting of show seems a bit extreme (though I haven't seen it). It doesn't bother me if advertising is or isn't pulled. Free Association and all that stuff we're supposed to like right? |

Detroit News Quote: Calling the retail giant's decision "un-American" and "naked religious bigotry," Sen. Ted Lieu, D-Torrance, said he would also consider legislative action if Lowe's doesn't apologize to Muslims and reinstate its ads. Yeah, I guess if by "legislative action" he means to propose that the Constitution doesn't apply to businesses deciding where they want to spend their advertising money... |

Of course it doesn't! If you allow businesses to spend their advertising money as they please, that's the same as saying they're actual people, and allows "corporations" to control everything! |

I feel like I'm reading an Ayn Rand novel. |

His attitude doesn't surprise me anymore. But I still can't wrap my head around how anyone can put a gun to someone else's head and say, "you'll advertise where we *say* you'll advertise!", whilst simultaneously accusing them of being un-American. The magnitude of hubris and/or cognitive dissonance required for such a feat truly boggles the mind. |
