sure. if you're willing to accept false analogies as determinant you can "win" any argument. |

Humans are even more likely to learn such behavior than lesser animals. The only difference is: as a society we're willing to accept an occasional bear starving to death. For one reason or another we've decided we can't let other humans suffer that fate. |

Something about that bear gives me the impression it's not so much a matter of him becoming dependent as him having fooled all of us into giving him a pic-i-nic bas-ket. |

Well, to play devil's advocate here, where does the Department of Agriculture say that it has a no feeding policy "because the animals may grow dependent and not learn to take care for themselves"? That sounds like something the person who created the poster just made up to make for a more compelling argument. There's a bunch of reasons not to feed wild animals that have nothing to do with them becoming dependent. |

Well, as I work for the Park Service, that is definitely one of the reasons we tell people why they shouldn't feed them. Like you said, there are others, but this seems to be the one most people "get". It still doesn't stop them though. *edit: The NPS is part of the Department of the Interior, and not Agriculture like the picture claims, for accuracy. I believe the Forest Service is Agriculture though. |

What's kinda funny now is there are a number of liberals I know trying to demonize that argument by claiming it "calls people who are on welfare animals". |
