Putting all of that aside, I hate politics. I really, really avoid politics at every turn. I don't think I've ever been involved in a political discussion on the Glade in all my years here. I usually don't have more of a leaning on particular politicians other than "he's good", "meh, he's an idiot", or "I wish he'd stop giving my money to lazy people." This guy is the only politician I've ever openly hated. As some of you know, meteorology is one of my main hobbies besides computers. (It was a 50/50 which one I'd go into for a career.) A couple years back, Senator Santorum took some significant contributions from AccuWeather, and subsequently decided to try to cripple the National Weather Service's ability to provide free public weather information to the masses. To break it down: Instead, the proposed bill would filter weather information to the public only through for-profit entities such as *gasp* AccuWeather. To break it down more: Take a bunch of information that's freely available, and use your political influence to classify it for no other reason except to give ownership to your financial partner. To further that end, during the tragedy that was the post-Katrina fallout, he tried to twist things around and publicly make the NWS look bad for lack of warnings, despite the very accurate predictions to the contrary. He failed in both respects, but other than weather junkies I don't think anyone paid it much heed. I don't really pay attention to political news so I don't know if anyone even mentions this as an issue with him. I guess it's a pretty wierd issue to have a problem with. 'Cause you know, fetal justice and whether or not God wrote the bill of rights are way more important things for a president to concern themselves with. OK, time for another 10-year break from political discussions |

Every time I see Santorum's name I confuse it with one of the most kickass Metallica songs, ever. |

Out of curiosity, does anyone know why images sometimes show up as a red x for some people and not for others? Is the issue with the forum, the image, the particular user's network, or what? |

It's often a case of caching. If the hosting site doesn't allow hotlinking (embedding their image in a page or post on another site), but you've viewed it in its native habitat (often because *you're* the one trying to hotlink it), you'll often be able to see it while people who haven't already viewed it won't. In Taly's case, however, I suspect it might be a case of the memegenerator site being blocked at work. |

The web filter categorized memegenerator as "Tasteless and Offensive." I'm offended by someone else telling me what is tasteless and offensive. (Never been to that site, no idea if they've got a point or not.) |

Ah, interesting. I just grabbed the pic via a Google image search; didn't really think about what the originating site might be. |
