Because I really don't give two shits about wading into another policeman/pet dog thread...

So. Long story short:

Old guy buys a plane ticket ($197) and doesn't buy flight insurance.

Old guy's doctor then tells him he can't fly due to his condition (esophageal cancer).

Old guy asks Spirit for his money back. Spirit says "Sorry, we're sympathetic, but we have a strict 'no-refunds' policy."

Old guy is a veteran. Veterans' groups go nuts, because how dare Spirit uphold their 'no-refunds' policy against a veteran. Start making noise, no less than three stories on Fox News' homepage today, etc.

Thoughts?

The airline. Being a veteran does not entitle you to demand special privileges from a private company, unless it's their policy to extend them.

This.

Spirit, for the record, operates on very very low profit margins. They are the extreme discount carrier of America. There are tradeoffs for that low cost.

Indeed, to both of you.

It would seem we're all in consensus.

**** your mom, maybe she give him a "ride" to his destination.

Still siding with the airline, but better?

Perhaps reading the terms and conditions next time might be in order for the vet.

They'll likely decide that paying the ticket is better than the bad PR, but the old guy isn't entitled to anything.

This. I can't stand when people try to trot out statuses in order to skirt their legal obligations. He entered into an agreement with the airline. He did not hold up his end of the agreement. Therefore he loses his money. I empathize with his situation but not what he is allowing to happen now.

They have to hold a place for them on the plane. It's not like the service is not rendered, if you cancel at the last minute, there's an empty seat. It would be nice if they gave you until, say, 30 days before the flight or something, but whatever.

But, for the same reason, if they ever bounce me from a flight because they overbooked, I should be able to have sex with the CEO's wife.

If so, they're refusing to troll the thread.
