Interestingly, no matter which narrative best reflects reality, the appropriate response is the same in each case - stock up on ammo and know your escape routes!

(Incidentally, I say there's an actual zombie apocalypse starting off, though it's of the 28 Days Later variety not the Night of the Living Dead variety (i.e. infected humans, not re-animated corposes.)
