Wait, what? "Malicious communication?"

http://www.cnn.com/video/?hpt=hp_c2#/vi ... witter.cnn

Basically, my takeaways from the video:

  • "Trolling" is pronounced "trahlling" in the UK, but "troll" remains "troll?"
  • I love that the psychologist lady takes credit for the "netiquette" portmanteau.
  • A teenager is arrested for "malicious communication" for being an ***? Jeez, I'm glad the board's not based in the UK.

That little chav went way further than just that one tweet.

He's a total wanker that deserves whatever punishment he gets in British law.

I still do not understand Twitter, it just seems to be a way to say dumb things even faster then usual.

Maybe it is just my anti-social behavior, or my abhorrence of pop culture, but I struggle to think on anyone's random thoughts or pronouncements I would like to "follow".

Is it my imagination or do a lot of British slurs revolve around masturbation? Wanker, Tosser, Sod-off...

British people. British problems. I have as mu h empathy for their being stung by their laws as I do for a new Yorker not being able to get a large soda. Don't elect asshats and you don't get asshat laws.

As far as I'm aware the idiot wasn't arrested until he threatened to find and kill the diver.

I don't 'use' twitter (I don't tweet what I had for lunch), but i do follow a bunch of twitter feeds, some of which are quite useful.

Stuff like WADOT, SEADOT, and the local TV and News Stations and their traffic reporters. It's a great way to get quick reports of traffic snarls to avoid on my commute, etc...

Following my local news stations yesterday, I was able to learn that the residential recycle and garbage pickups had been rescheduled due to a strike, and managed to get my cans to the curb before they showed up this morning.

I also follow some of the major headline/breaking news feeds.

If you are into baseball at all, following the local beat writers, and the national baseball writers during the trade deadline is pretty fun, although it can get spammy.

I also have a few luthier friends who post links to their blogs/facebook pages with updates to their latest instrument building projects.

Much like most social media sites, twitter is what you make of it. For me, it's strictly a news and information service that I can tune and adjust (or turn off) at my whim.

Re: the Hope Solo thing. This is another situation where the media made a story out of a non-story. Hope Solo has never liked Brandi Chastain. They have been jabbing at each other in the media ever since Brandi became a 'Soccer Analyst' and started being critical of US players. Hope is outspoken to a fault. Again, this isn't news. She was benched by her coach during the last olympics for running her mouth. The team ended up losing badly with their back up goalkeeper. The coach lost his job, and Hope is still playing. The fact that Hope tweeted a rant about Brandi criticizing the US defenders on TV (on a match where they shut out their opponents no less) was not a surprise to anyone who knows anything about either one of them. It was a non-story, until the media made a big deal out of it.
