Remember, no problem is so complex that the issues csn't be swept away with ridicule!

Don't get me wrong, domestic legalization of pot I agree with, but Jack Chick tracts are no more palatable for legalized pot than for his point of view.

Didn't two people get shot to death on day 1 in Washington trying to rob a grower and his pre-teen son?

Kind of with DE here. There is no stance so strong its detractors are worthy of ridicule as pompous as that.

Yeah? And?

Breaking and entering and larceny is *still* illegal.

Car stereos should be illegal because people try to steal them.

So the arguments that 1) legalizing it would reduce drug crimes and 2) supply would make it so cheap cartels would be cut out are both fuzzy bullshit told to make this path palatable? Cool.

Wait... you expected both of these things to happen day 1?

Especially since there *still* isn't a legal distribution path?

You can't be that dense.

LOL. Washington hasn't even come up with a way to distribute it yet. Way to jump to conclusions.

Oh sorry, must have misunderstood the giant oversimplification that started this thread, carry on!

There is no oversimplification. The eventual result of decriminalizing and "legalizing" marijuana for recreational use will be greatly reduced crime related to marijuana. This may result in transient criminal activity increase.

As for the story, what exactly is tragic about what happened? A couple of criminals were shot by a law abiding citizen. Unfortunate he had to use force, but how is that different than any other robbery attempt? Regardless of what happens regarding the legality of marijuana, people will ccontinue to be robbed and the robbery may or may not involve marijuana.

Hopefully there will be a reduction in marijuana crime, besides the reduction of no longer arresting people for posession. We are assuming the effect will be similar to prohibition. It might not be. We might see significantly smaller reductions in crime; we could luck out and get even better results. We can't however, say what will happen.

Interesting reply considering...

Quote:
* DOJ expected rule on pot policy soon - Holder

* Congress to hold hearing on issue in early 2013

What a **** coward he is!

So the President isn't allowed to have personal opinions while respecting state rights. Got it.

He has kept to what he told Californians. Personal use is not being pursued but businesses that are making profits and not following the rules certainly are.

The President also cannot unilaterally "fix" the law, nor order Congress to address it. As far as ficing the law goes, the fact that a few states have changed their laws does not mean the Federal law is "broken" and needs to be changed to accommedate either those states or the opinions of those favoring legalization. It's a matter for public and political debate at the state and federal level, regardless of your position on the issue.
