Here's a fairly comprehensive compilation:

Anyone on here tried it? Thoughts?

My buddy has it. If you have less than 9ft (7 if only one person) inbetween your couch and tv, **** forget it. Also, make sure your room is well-lit.

It's okay right now. The software is too Wii-like (aka lame after gimmick wears off) so I'm not going to get it any time soon. Holding your hand in place for three seconds to select something sucks. The best game for kinect right now is a dance game. Seriously.

Netflix menu isn't compatible with Kinect. Biggest disappointment.

The best thing I think Kinect has going for it is the voice control and video chat. Both work well.

My wife really wanted this so she pre-ordered it. It comes with the Kinect Adventures (obsticle-coarse-y mini-games meets Mario/Sonic token grabbing; seems decent so far) and she ordered Your Shape: Fitness Evolved (I kinda liked this actually, Tai Chi, Kickboxing workouts, personal trainer that tracks your calories burned and critiques your form during exercise routines).
We have only played with it for one evening so far. She's in love with it. I think its great technology, but it needs better titles. And yes, you need a good amount of space and lighting for the best results. I expect we will be messing with it more this weekend but right now its off to Costco.

The Wii has been out how many years now? If it takes the Wii this long to get even a tolerable library of decent games, I can't imagine how long it's going to take with the Kinect. I'll probably pick it up, but in like a year or two.

Honestly, this is probably why I don't have one. Netflix is definitely my 2nd biggest app on the 360. They JUST updated the app, I am absolutely astounded as to why they wouldn't include kinect support.

Oh I'm sure it will be. Netflix is a cha-ching for MS.

How do you figure? MS doesn't make any money by including it, and every other system can do it too. Not to mention dedicated set-top boxes that allow it, as well as internet TV's now coming with it built-in.

But I'm sure MS gets a nice kick-back from Netflix for continuing to offer a portal to their service. And with as large an install base as Live has . . .

Netflix isn't making any money directly from MS. MS is the one that stood to make money off of Netflix (when other systems were still disc-based) by enticing people to sign up for XBL.

It's just kind of expected, at this point, to be able to stream Netflix. I'd bet that if MS took it out of the Dashboard tomorrow, they would be the ones losing some customers, not Netflix.

I'd definitely have no reason to be a gold customer.

Netflix alone makes it worth subscribing, I agree. If they took that away, they'd lose a ton.

Perhaps not directly, but Netflix is making money by garnering an extended subscription base brought on by distribution via MS/Sony online services. Take those people away and Netflix's subscription base drops. Even if it's not by an enormous margin, it's still a loss on their reports, and the powers that be don't like to see that.

Food for thought. How many has the Move sold, anyone know? I'm guessing at least as many...but I kinda doubt 10 days after release.

Hard to say with NPD not reporting numbers anymore (/grumble)

Course, Kinect's sales aren't really that surprising considering MS's blitz advertising of it. Only Move commercials I have seen have been online.

I predict both will show strong out of gate sales, then level off considerably.

Wiki sayz:
Quote:
On October 14, 2010, it was confirmed by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) president Andrew House, that PlayStation Move had sold around 1.5 million units in Europe during its first month of release.[71] During the same week, Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) Senior Director of Corporate Communications, Patrick Seybold also remarked that Move was performing "extremely well at retail" in North America but no exact sales figures were given.[72] It was later confirmed to have shipped one million units in the Americas region during its first month of release.[73] [74]

Hah. :D That is something else.

Still waiting to see what comes softwarewise for Move and Kinect. It's the most interesting part IMO. While these technologies are better than the 4 year old Wii (holy crap has it been that long?), as far as big picture gameplay goes it's still down the same path. Sony and MS have had the lion's share of the... mainstream "hardcore" titles. Can they bring them to these motion technologies?

I'm perhaps a bit skeptical about the Kinect. Having no buttons at all sort of scares me. I was pondering for the racing game about how you would handle accelerating and braking, for example. The no controller at all thing can be cool, and there's probably a demographic for it (that dancing game perhaps?) but I don't know if I can see traditional games doing well there. Wii/Move both have the ability to integrate motion with standard old controllers which, in my experience, has been where the best use of the technology has been. Metroid Prime 3 as a whole and some aspects of Twilight Princess are still what I think the games should end up like.

Time shall tell! I look forward to seeing what comes.

I wrote a post, then realized I basically just restated what you said Noggel. :) I can't wait until they try to force a hardcore game into the Kinect structure and it fails HORRIBLY.

Don't be silly. You won't hide behind your couch, you'll hide behind the officially licensed Gears of War Kinect Wall, retailing for $49.99.

It's got Genuine Crumbling Concrete (TM) action! So immersive!

Part of me wonders whether somebody will try a Heavy Rain-like game interface with Kinect. I could see that maybe working, eventually.

That's actually a really good idea. I think that would've added quite a bit of immersion to the game (they're already doing a move version), so something else similar would be great.
