So, you all remember my rant a bit ago about my dad's "mild" heart attack? Well, guess what...

I had to upstage my dad Wednesday morning!! :(

Got up at my usual time, 7AM, booted up my computer while taking my blood test, was just about to take my morning meds when BAM! Severe pressure on and around my sternum. Took my blood pressure...288/117...took it again about a minute later...284/113! Called hubby, then called 911...swallowed an aspirin with water (D'oh!)...dispatch told me to take another and CHEW it this time!! Dispatch also told me to unlock the door for the paramedics and gather all my meds up for them to see. Had just got dressed real quick and was bringing out my meds when the paramedics arrived. Weeeee...my very first ever ride in an ambulance!!!

Many hours in ER, being monitored, vital signs taken every hour or so, blood tests every 6 hours, several EKGs, finally taken to my room and given some horrible soup and sugarfree jello (Yuck!!). An hour later, moved to a private room upstairs where they could monitor me better, and given a bloodthinner through IV. Nothing by mouth after midnight! :(

Thursday morning, 10AM, my chariot arrived to move me to another Kaiser hospital for an angiogram. Weeee, my second ever ride in an ambulance...this one was a bit more fun, since I wasn't scared out of my wits or in pain! Arrived at the catheterization lab...more monitors, vitals, and blood tests...prepping for the angiogram...valium and benedryl, weeeee!! Was the strangest sensation feeling the iodine flowing through my arteries! Three hours flat on my back, not supposed to move my right leg or lift my head, being fed tiny bites of a sandwich and small sips of water through a straw (first solid food in two days!!) Since he had forgotten to bring their phone numbers with him, hubby had to run home to call my dad and sister and let them know I was coming home in a few hours.

Angiogram results...no blockages in my arteries!! Left ventricle isn't pumping to full capacity! They did an echo sound (think that's what they called it) and I need to see a cardiologist in 2 weeks for follow up. Several new meds to take daily, nitro to carry with me.....

I feel like this has all been a very, very bad dream and when I wake up, everything will be back to normal! :(

Glad you're okay and hope that this doesn't recur. However, this

Jasmy, I feel I relate to you more than anyone else on the board based on age, likes/dislikes, habits, feelings and attitudes. Please take care of yourself so I know someone else can relate to what I post. I hope you get everything under control soon.

LOL Farsky!!

Thank you everyone for your prayers and kind thoughts! Like I said, this is like a very bad dream. One day I'm fine, the next I'm hooked up to all kinds of machines!

shuyung: I know it was the wrong order, but I was in a panic state. It's a good thing I did call my hubby first though. I was having trouble getting the call out on the house phone and my cell phone! his call got to 911 before mine did!

I am almost glad that I was diagnosed with diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol a couple years ago! I'd changed my diet and started taking much better care of myself, as I chronicled on the last iteration of the Glade! This heart attack could have been a lot worse than it was!

Again, thank you all for your thoughts and prayers! /HUGS!!!

"echo sound"= echocardiogram, an ultrasound video of your heart. Probably evaluating your left ventricle physiology and function. I put that order in all the time here at work. Glad to hear you're alright!

Yes Colphax! That's what they called it! I was still under the influence of the valium, and wasn't quite sure of the terminology. Also, that same "under the influence" caused me to not remember all of the orders...good thing hubby was there to get the info! I have to see the cardiologist next week, THEN follow-up in 2 to 3 weeks.

This is hard! Nurse Ratchet (my hubby) won't let me do anything! However, I'm finding that laughter really is the best medicine!

Send him over to the drive-in on San Carlos to get Falafels, then head for the hills.

Necropost for an update....

Saw the cardiologist this morning. He confirmed what they told me after my angiogram, that I have "broken heart syndrome" or tacotsubo cardiomyopathy. He says that it should clear up and my heart be back to normal in a month or two.

Twenty years ago this syndrome would have me on complete bedrest! Nowadays, the doctors say to get out there and exercise!! Hmmmm...I'm not sure which one is worse!!
