I work for a big evil corp empire as a low level field officer. Having had reasonable success at what I do, my VP of Operations asked me to head on down to HQ and teach some classes on our testing equipment, as well as take some Q&A on how things run in that big scary real world that they don't get to see from this 49 floored Death Star downtown.

My syllubus and course outline get reviewed and approved, and off I go. Naturally, since I'm literally two doors down from The Emperor and Lord Vader, I make sure I dress what I feel is appropriately to the task at hand. Boy was I fregging wrong. Apparently wearing tie and jacket instead of my normal Stormtrooper armor is unacceptable even at the upper floors of the ivory tower. I was told that I was "intimidating" to the various VPs / Supervisors because I didn't look like one of the field guys and they didn't know how to react to me. Yet I was dressed pretty much like everyone else in the room.

What The Frank.

I'm here to do a gorram job that was assigned. I dress the part. Even when I'm out in the field I wear pressed and clean clothing, why the hell, when there is a very strong likelyhood that the President of the whole damn company will walk in the door, do you think I'm going to bring anything less then the motherfudgin A game? I'm here to teach. You aren't going to pay attention to a slob. You aren't going to pay attention to a mumbling stumbling fool. Just like in the field, I cut through the BS and get the gorram job done. Thats why you motherfudgin asked me to come down and change the damn diapers here.

I'm about 30 minutes from reenacting the Mooby board room scene from Dogma.

Whoever told you a jacket and tie are unacceptable is an idiot.

Ignore them.

I'd walk around with a jacket and tie in every day life if I wasn't so lazy.

If they are intimidated by a suit and tie then they need to step their game up.
They also need to ditch the attitude/idea that you are dressing above your place...sounds like they are insecure.
Go apply for their job.

If the person who told you this is your superior, then unfortunately you may be stuck playing by their rules (if you want to keep your job, of course).

If they are not, then just smile and nod and continue doing what you do.

That's too awesome. They're idiots apparantely if they think you're dressing too professional.

You have to understand what it means when they say you intimidated them.

You're a field guy, field guys don't fit in at the HQ, its tradition. The basic assumption is that field guys who dress for success when in the big office are looking to move up, you want their job and you're both professional and good at what you do.

That is how they think, you are after their jobs and it is a scary economic time.

So, the statements that they may be idiots doesn't go far enough, they are idiots who know they've hit the Peter Principle and are scared the big guns are bringing folks around to see how they fit before they fire the idiots and recruit their replacements.

No, it doesn't matter what your intentions really are, whether you have no desire to promote up to HQ now or ever. It doesn't even matter if the Sith Lords noticed you at all. You showed you can fit in if they need you there and that scares the guys who aren't doing their job well and know it.

Congratulations, you not only did your job, you did their management's job as well. You put them in fear of their jobs. Well done, maybe they learned something and will work harder.

A force choke is something to fear you know. "Apology accepted" is not something they want to hear on their way out the door.

At my job, all the employees and managers wear whatever they want. Gym clothes, sandals, etc.

Today was more fruitful, I channeled my inner Snape and got some of the foot draggers to get on board. I made it a point to stand and walk around the entire class, lording over the more troublesome individuals as they attempted to reconcile why one departments policy directly contradicts anothers, and how it affects our customer interactions.

Glorious. I hope they see me as the bogeyman hiding in every shadow. Machevellian theory at it's finest.

Your big evil corporation's upper managment is a bunch of **** pansies?

Why don't you have them chug on over to mamby pamby land where MAYBE we can find some self confidence for the jackwagons.

You should take them a box of tissues next time. Crybabies.

Put the tie around your head like Rambo, and you should be good.
