I hate being sick. Unfortunately, my oldest has just started kindergarten this year and as a result, is bringing home viruses to the tune of about once every few weeks. This past one resulted in a sinus infection for me. I was fine gutting it out, until the pressure kicked in. Started right between the eyes, expanded out to both temples, and then the ache started in my cheekbones. So it got to the point where I went to see a doctor. Fine so far, I've seen him before for the same malady a couple years ago. This time, however, he orders me up a shot of prednisone. Let me tell you something about shots. **** shots. But I felt bad enough I could be philosophical about this one. In hindsight, **** shots. Now my arm is sore. I better start feeling better in about five minutes, because right now I could go in on some 'roid rage.

I used to have sinuses that always gave me fits, too -- they'd get infected because they wouldn't drain properly.

I always found aspirin and a steaming shower helped. The aspirin dulls the throbbing sensation from the blood pounding around the pressure-blocked sinuses and brings down some of the swelling, and the shower helps soften mucus buildup.

I occasionally flush my sinuses with a saline solution. I've found it to work well in the past, especially when dealing with allergies, but I normally don't have a need to use it past about October. I gave it a few shots when I realized I had a sinus infection, but apparently it was a bit too late.

That would have been preventable if you hadn't walked into that box.

This is the same suggestion I gave, as the majority of Wasabi available in the U.S. is little more than horseradish paste.

If you haven't had the anthrax shot series, quit *****. There's five or six of them and every damn one feels like your arm got hit with a sledgehammer.

compared to the Peanut Butter shot, maybe. It hurts like **** hell.

The smallpox one is a good time too. Nothing like a shot that gives you a permenant scar.

This thread is not a good one to read while in the dentist's chair

You use your laptop while the dentist is working on you?

I've never tried horseradish, the guy at the restaurant says his wasabi's the real deal, not that I'd know the difference.

It's a nice place. I wasn't all that impressed with sushi/sashimi as a whole but I'm pretty much a meat and potato kinda guy.

Have you ever had cocktail sauce at a seafood restaurant? If so, you've had horseradish ;)

I actually like horseradish. Not the stupid paste in a jar, but the shredded kind in the cooler section. It's also pretty good fresh, but harder to find. Not too hard to grow, if you can grow veggies. I use to grow some along with those little red raddishes, for salads.

It's gross, but when I had a sinus infection, frequent hot showers with lots of... nasal clearing... worked wonders.

Hose in one nostril, shop vac on the other. Anything less is wussy. Use a sand slurry for those crusty boogers.
