Anyone else catch this series when it was on HBO? I heard lots about it, how it was really good, so decided to give it a chance. Watched the first three episodes this weekend and enjoyed them.

"Oh, indeed."
It is one of my favorite series - ever.

Incoming, a DFK!

The Wire is, in my opinion, one of the best shows ever put on television. It takes a while to get into, but the reflection of reality, social commentary, and plot are all fantastic. You'll have a hard time transitioning into the second season due to the geographic shift, but just remember that "the city" should really be a main character in your mind here.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. The Sopranos was my favorite show, but it was spotty and inconsistent, so I think The Wire is "better."

I've had a friend pestering me to start this for awhile now, and I intend to start sometime next year after I finish up with Breaking Bad and The Tudors.

As I said, the first three episodes really impressed me. It's got a very real feel to it and I'm starting to get a glimpse into what makes the different characters tick. I look forward to the next disk to get here Wed.

By the way, I don't know if they've introduced Omar yet, but he's awesome. Bunk makes me laugh my *** off. McNulty is certifiable. And each season is better than the last.

Yeah, Omar just made his appearance. And the guy playing Bunk is usually pretty awesome in whatever he does.

Just watched the next two episodes.

Omar, yeah...I can see why he is a good character. Surprising fact about him.

Thought the scene where McNulty and Bunk recreate the crime scene of the black chick that got shot was hilarious. The whole dialogue was them saying **** in some form or another for 5 minutes.

We had just finished the Shield when we started watching The Wire.
Not sure if I wasn't done grieving for the end of the Shield, hahaha, or what, but I was only able to watch about half of the first episode of The Wire and couldn't get into it. I just couldn't follow for some reason.
Haven't watched it since.

It moved slow for you probably at the start. It's a good show. I knew it was going to be good about half way through the second episode.

...see, if its not good halfway through the *first* episode, to me, its not worth continuing to watch.

This time you are mistaken milady.

If you likes The Shield, you'll like The Wire. The King is wise.

This happens more often than you might think.

Don't think of it on a per-episode basis. Think of it like a 5-season, roughly 60-hour long movie.

Yes, but it delivers LOADS of awesome. No pun intended.

Edit: Oh, and now that the secrets out Nitefox, I can say this: Omar is the best-written gay character on television, if only because he is 100% the least stereotyped.

Those rebound relationships are always tricky.
