It's not about saving vertical space, it's allowing large numbers of tabs to have enough room to display some text of the title bar to differentiate them.

That said, it needs a scrollbar or something. Since they don't compress, it cuts down on the number of accessible tabs. I refuse to acknowledge that perhaps my browsing habits are the problem.

Yeah, probably why I don't care for it then because 95% of the time I only ever have one tab open, and on an extraordinarily rare occasion I may have up to 4, but that's it, so even on my UMPC with it's lower screen res I don't have issues with reading the tabs.

And, honestly, UMPCs are not the market for tabbed browsing, let alone side tabs. Surprise!

Yeah, just saying that with my general browsing habits even on my UMPC's 1024x600 res all the tabs I use fit fine horizontally without shrinking from normal size, on my laptop and desktop with 1366x768 and 1920x1080 I don't even come close to running out of horizontal space.

Then you don't thread your browsing like I do.

Nope, I just view a site, go to my bookmarks and go to the next, the only site I semi regularly use tabs is DeviantArt when i'm going thru the group watches I have and I like someone's art in their and will open their page in another tab to go to once I finish going thru and cleaning out my messages, and DeviantArt is one of those sites I view that actually will use the full width even on my desktop monitor.
