I, too, however have never seen The Goonies. Weird, that.

I think you have that confused.

You wrote sucked when youobviously meant seriouslyawesomtasticular.

No no, I'm quite happy with my assessment.

Pop and rock sucked more than could possibly be imaginable in the '80s. The only decent music to come out of the '80s were by artists already established before the Decade of Suck began, minus a few punk and metal bands.

Good decade for movies, though. Not the best, but some the high points were exceptional.

Ah, the rose-colored glasses of youth. Heck, I say the same thing about the 70s, and that's generally a universally reviled decade. :)

The channel my dad and I used to watch still called it Mazinger, not Tranzor. Several years later I saw it again while it was called Tranzor Z; but the original name always stuck with me.

As far as my list:
Casablanca
Nosferatu
North by Northwest
Citizen Kane
Raging Bull
The Maltese Falcon
Taxi Driver
Hamlet (Lawrence Olivier)
Rebel without a Cause
The Piano
The English Patient
Breakfast at Tiffany's

I own Reservoir Dogs, but personally.. I hate the frikking movie.
I did not care for Bladerunner

And I highly recommend Equilibrium to anyone who has not seen it.
I also highly recommend the 1973 movie 'The Legend of Hell House' to anyone who enjoys what horror movies were supposed to be, suspense and not gore.

Yeah, Mazinger Z is to Tranzor Z what "Beast King GoLion" is to Voltron. Original name -> Americanized name.

I can still hum the theme to Tranzor Z 25 years later, having not heard it since.

There were a couple things that were bad about the 80s: 1) Women's hairstyles were awful 2) The 80s ended.

I'm not sure when or how (perhaps it's partly due to being able to readily recall, just about anything I've ever seen and when I saw it), but I can claim about 80% of the list. Sucker for classics I guess.

I can't think of any "awesome movies" that I haven't seen. I'm more the type that will go buy a movie that I want to see when I learn about it.

Yes, Spike Lee is indeed a douche, but he has made a few entertaining movies. Much like the fact that although Roman Polanski is a convicted child rapist, that doesn't change the fact that he's a talented filmmaker and both Chinatown and The Pianist are brilliant films.

From the AFI top 100 list, I've seen even fewer (marked with asterisks.) Note that I'd have seen a lot more, but I've watched parts of many these movies and wasn't interested enough to keep watching. (Like Jaws, or Rocky, for example.) Others I've just never had enough interest to go pick up and watch.

Citizen Kane
The Godfather *
Casablanca *
Raging Bull
Singin' in the Rain
Gone with the Wind * (sucked)
Lawrence of Arabia
Schindler's List
Vertigo * (brilliant)
The Wizard of Oz *
City Lights
The Searchers
Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope *
Psycho
2001: A Space Odyssey * (sucked)
Sunset Blvd. * (sucked)
The Graduate
The General
On the Waterfront
It's a Wonderful Life *
Chinatown
Some Like It Hot
The Grapes of Wrath
E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial *
To Kill a Mockingbird *
Mr. Smith Goes to Washington
High Noon
All About Eve
Double Indemnity
Apocalypse Now
The Maltese Falcon *
The Godfather Part II *
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest *
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs * (I don't get the inclusion of this movie. Disney has made dozens of movies better than this one.)
Annie Hall
The Bridge on the River Kwai
The Best Years of Our Lives
The Treasure of the Sierra Madre
Dr. Strangelove
The Sound of Music *
King Kong
Bonnie and Clyde
Midnight Cowboy
The Philadelphia Story
Shane

Holy crap, I didn't realize City Lights was so high up there. Maybe it's because I think the 20's to early 30's culture sucked, maybe it's because I don't really care one way or another about Charlie Chaplin, but that movie sucked. I'm sorry, it was boring, unrewarding, and paying mind to the technical detail didn't even make it fun.

However, Double Indemnity was awesome.
