Last night's escapade (See this thread) brought this thought to mind.

Is it better a better feeling to find something that you have lost and have been looking all over for or to find something that you didn't even realize you lost. In both cases, it makes sense to assume the lost item is something important or valuable.

Last night, we experienced both within the space of an hour and I would have to say the latter is a better feeling. Something about the relief of not finding out that the something was lost in the first place coupled with the relief of finding said item.

Thoughts?

I'd say, of the two options presented, I'd rather find something I knew was lost. The alternative mixes in the frustration of "how the hell did that get there and how long has it been missing?" and I don't much care for it.

On the other hand, my personal favorite is finding something that's been lost for so long that you'd forgotten about it. Nothing quite like digging through boxes of stuff in an attic, basement, storage closet, etc and having an "OMG, I still have this?!" moment.

I hate finding something that I lost about a week after I purchase the replacement.

Vastly prefer finding something I forgot about or didn't know I had (or rummaging through the family attic!)

Much more fun!

oh so very very much this, especially the bolded part.

But overall I am good as long as I am not missing my wallet, laptop, keys or medication.

I don't really lose things. I merely forget about them until I remember them and I'm like, "Oh yeah, I remember that." And I'll know exactly where it is.
