Anyone else see
The Eagle? Just came out last weekend, and the box office suggests that it wasn't unusual that I had my own private screening in the theater last night (literally - I was the only one there. It was great).
Anyway, I rather enjoyed it. Wrestled with whether or not to go; I had seen a trailer, and parts of it looked just kind of cheesy. I also knew next to nothing about any of the stars (Channing Tatum, Jamie Bell), other than Donald Sutherland.
Even though the two aren't related, this is almost a sequel to
Centurion, which came out last year. Deals with the same disappearing Roman legion, except that this one is set 20 years later and deals with the aftermath (and is based on a 1954 novel for young adults, "The Eagle of the Ninth").
I won't write a review, other than to say that almost all of the professional reviews I read get some fundamental part of the story wrong. Don't go see it based on those reviews, but if you like some good sword and sandals action, it's worth the price of admission. I thought it broke down a bit in the last half-hour or so, but it was still pretty enjoyable.
