You may not care about his endorsements, but you'll care about his boot when he roundhouses you!

Jimmy Carter was an ultra-evangelical snake charmer with similar evolutionary and earth history beliefs. Do you discout his endordments for the same reasons, or are you being disingenuous?

That meme is so over. It's all about Sheen nowadays. Winning.

Chuck would never have made that much noise about his TV series being canceled.

Carter is an Evangelical Baptist, but that doesn't mean he denies evolution. Where are you finding your data Rynar?

Carter: Some people cannot accept that any word in the Scripture could possibly be mistaken. Some, including some in my own church whom I teach every Sunday, have a very devout belief that the world was created by God in 4004 B.C. in maybe six calendar days. I never had any problem accepting the fact that the Earth is billions of years old and that it revolves around the sun rather than the other way around, but I don’t see a need to argue with my church members about it.

Obama's approval is only up right now because racist tea party candidates took over a bunch of Congressional seats for the red people, and so we're approving of the president to make ourselves feel less racist. This surge in approval won't last enough to win him reelection. He'll have to do (or not do) something else between now and then. Given Obama's track record, I find that sort of unlikely. He's just been sort of dull, though maybe another campaign will revive him.

Or perhaps we have adjusted to tightening our belts mentally so the economy doesn't seem as bad as it is. Frog in the pot whatnot.

I think the Republican game plan should be to concentrate on winning the Senate. They should field an expendable, but clean canidate against Obama.

So I think Obama will be a shoe in. 99% sure he will be reelected.

Eh. If the economy was so bad this wouldn't be happening. Things aren't falling apart like people here like to convince themselves.

What does a belief in the origin of the world have to do with how to run a country?

Or maybe since you aren't personally impacted you don't believe it.

Maybe because they don't make anything BUT smartphones anymore?

I think that a persons religious views should definately be examined before holding political office as any other fact about a person. Voters should know these things. Its a lot better than the practice of putting on blinders when it comes to religion.

Lex:

Except, smartphone sales don't exactly indicate anything or an improving economy. In fact, Cell Phone sales are a horrible indicator of anything, because it's such a skewed market in the first place. Contract renewals and forced phone replacements drive hardware sales far faster than actual demand. As for smartphones taking a larger part of the market share, it's because service providers are making less non-smartphones available to their consumers.

I don't think so. Smart phones are expensive and people can still buy normal phones.

We should start measuring by amount of Jitterbug sales then.

I just think if the economy was failing, people wouldn't be buying a lot more smart phones. It's fine if you disagree with me. But that's how I see it.

Well, 1) people like leaders that relate to them and are similar in belief and culture. A belief that the world is 4000 years old is pretty far out there for a lot of people.
2) it indicates a preference, in general, for religion over science, which can be important
3) does he feel that rapture is imminent? That might actually affect his policy decisions.

This, more than anything. (Not that the other points are not valid as well.) Advancing scientific knowledge is not just important...it's all-important.

Anyway, I mentioned the huckabee/norris thing not because he's a good candidate, but because it was the best political commercial of all time.

Carter is generally considered to be one of the worst Democratic presidents, even amongst liberals.

I agree 100%. I'll also note that maintaining a stable society with good infrastructure is vital to advancing scientific knowledge.
