Some individuals have a tendency to insult the intelligence of others when they think they're wrong. I guess it makes them feel better about themselves. I don't mind someone being wrong, but when they're wrong and being insulting, I have a tendency to be motivated to illustrate their wrongness.

Actually, it doesn't. See, that's where you're wrong. You're making the assumption not supported by sentence, the post, or subsequent posts in the thread. More to the point, since RangerDave limited his set of possible values to one set by using "an" -- that is indeed singular -- you remain wrong.

But, keep asserting you're correct because you know you want to. It's what you've done for 10 years even in absolute evidence of your wrongness.

Correct, "an" is singular. It is not exclusive. An outcome can be dependent on several distinct objects, each of which is singular. An egg, a teaspoon of oil, a box of cake mix = cake.
