I'd like to know why those creepy white-eyed thingies let that guy get away alive. Looked to me like they are sort of like really smart zombies...but didn't seem to make sense that the would let him get away alive.

Yeah, they didn't in the book (I read that far :P), and I think someone else questioned that too. Dunno whyfor the change.

That's been the biggest headscratcher to me in the first episode. If that's the only/biggest elves at Helm's Deep moment (or Faramir, but I stand much more lonely on that front on the Netz), I think I'm okay with that.

The guy wasn't technically a deserter until, after arriving back at the Wall, he then left and went south. This is probably the likely explanation, since there aren't that many places to get through the wall and he probably didn't have much patience at that point anyway...

Actually, yeah. This does make the most sense.

Plot development. If he was killed, then we couldn't have the Ned moment with Bran, and they wouldn't be out to find the Direwolves.

Pretty sure I liked that episode even less than the first one. One more before I give up completely.

My British friend was raving about it Thursday night. Said he thought it was pretty good.

Do brits have testes? If so, this could be the tie-breaker I was looking for.

Eh, was an smorgasbord of DOCTOR WHO tonight (halfway through series 3!). Will catch up on GoT tomorrow or so. Amidst more WHO.

I would say give it until episode 5 or 6. The first time I read the book it wasn't until a little over halfway through that I really started getting into it.

I'm with Ulfynn, here. If the show isn't striking your fancy yet, give it an episode or two in King's Landing before you drop it. So probably 2, maybe 3 more and we should see the core conflicts really unfold and begin to blossom. Right now, we're still in setup when it comes to the intrigue and open conflict.

FWIW, I watched the first episode of "The Wire" and couldn't get into it at all. It took 3 or 4 episodes to fully get the impact of the characters and the plot details.
Sometimes it's just like that...had I gone with my instincts and not watched The Wire again, I'd have missed out on a really good show but I took the advice of NF and kept watching it and he was right.

That's all I saw in that post.

Episode 6 is generally where you want to continue/drop a TV series. It's not at all uncommon to have a series that's still trying to find its footing up to that point.

I'll give you all the benefit of the doubt, then and keep going until episode 6.
