That's exactly what you're supposed to be thinking. Don't worry.

Remember how some sitcoms from the 80s had a family member who went upstairs in their house, and then for the rest of the show's remaining seasons, never showed up again? Case in point, the youngest Winslow girl from Family Matters (who eventually turned to porn)?

This is the opposite of that.

those shows never explained what/how that character vanished. You get to find out all about Dawn.

I love you all! *grabs popcorn*

(none of my friends or family wanted to watch Buffy/Angel then/now... they just don't get it.)

This was one of the many reasons why I have been reading/lurking... posting here and there since '99.

You had me at Spike! *group hug*

True, but I would have preferred the "no explanation" to what they gave us.

But, also remember that Buffy was on the decline for me at this point too.

Uh...the explanation was the reason for Dawn's existence. They didn't just decide "Hey, we need Buffy to have a sister this year. Let's come up with some contrived explanation for how to give her one." This isn't a case of Deus Ex Machina. Dawn was created because of the plot, the plot wasn't created to explain Dawn.

Season 5 was the best season of Buffy, both for plot/character development and for individual episodes (The Body has to be the best episode of the series), but it never got old. I don't think it ever jumped the shark. Season 6 still has the second best episode ever made ("Once more, with feeling") and the best villain at the end. At season 7 it was still going strong. A season 8 (for TV, I know about the comic book) may have been better than 5.

*nod* stand out episodes from buffy:

"Hush"
"Once More With Feeling"
"Fool for Love"
"The Body"
"Fear Itself"
"The Prom"
Honestly, I thought that season 4 was the weakest. Adam's motivations are never particularly clear other than "I'm evil." and the battle against him is a bit too ... easy?

Season 5, 6 7 have enough emotional torment of the characters that I Love that they take you along with them for their pain.

I agree. "The Initiative" (and in particular, Maggie Walsh) was a far more intimidating foe than Adam, until it was destroyed.
Also, Riley Finn was a pussy.

And just so its clear this isn't just us Buffy Fanboi's gushing over "The Body"

Spoiler:
Television critic Alesia Redding and editor Joe Vince of the South Bend Tribune write,
Quote:
"I was riveted by this show ... This isn't just one of the best Buffy episodes of all time. It's one of the best episodes of TV of all time."
Joe Gross in the Austin American-Statesman states that
Quote:
"the entire cast and crew should have received some sort of Emmy for 'The Body'".
Ian Shuttleworth, 2004 wrote:
Any sneerer of Buffy in particular or genre work should simply be sat down in front of a television and told to shut up for three-quarters of an hour while they are shown "The Body"; their awestruck silence afterwards may be taken as recantation or apology.

At Salon.com, Joyce Millman writes,
Quote:
"there hasn't been a finer hour of drama on TV this year than ... 'The Body'

Kira Schlechter in The Patriot-News declares "The Body" "one of the finest episodes of any series ever",

The Episode even made NPR daily broadcast
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/stor ... Id=1122245

I challenge anyone to honestly watch the episode without being brought to tears.

Veronica Mars.

Alternatively, if discs are acceptable now that you're stateside again, Leverage or White Collar.

I just watched all of Veronic Mars, couple months ago, would definately throw a vote out for that one.

Dollhouse still have not finished need to pick that back up and finish it, was a little to slow for my taste.

Chuck, Big Bang Theory, Eureka, Warehouse 13, Sons of Anarchy, Breaking Bad, HIMYM I would all recommend, sitting in an office by myself gives me lots of Netflix and Torrent time :P

Start up Doctor Who (the 2005 revival with Christopher Eccleston).

Eh, close, but yeah, go with VM first. Three seasons, easier to roll through. I thought Kirra said she'd already watched them, but that was Kashan (hence the Who suggestion). :)

Seconded with Veronica Mars, with the caveat that you know it ends on an eternal cliffhanger with no closure at all. :(

I'd also agree with watching the first two seasons of the best show currently on television (White Collar).

Leverage is merely good. It's not nearly as fun as White Collar.

On second thought, when it comes to television recommendations, just listen closely to almost everything Kaffis ever tells you.
