Leaving aside for the moment the question of whether ME still has civil unions, gays are not second-class citizens there. They enjoy exactly the same rights as everyone else. Just because they don't wish to exercise the right to get married in the way determined by the voters doesn't meant they are being treated unequally; no one, regardless of sexuality may marry a member of the same sex in ME and anyone may marry a member of the opposite sex.

Now, one might argue that people should be able to marry memebrs of the same sex, but that is not an issue of gays being second-class citizens. If that is permitted, it is permitted for everyone, not just gays. Heterosexuals can do it for financial reasons if they wish, and bisexuals can too. Funny how bisexuals always get left out of this. I guess they just filed under "gays" as "gay-light" or something. Can't have them inconveniencing the left's arguments about oppression, can we?

The gay marriage issue is really just a matter of semantics, marriage, union, partnership.
it's the perceived meaning marriage has for a very long time and religiously viewed as a man and woman, not something that's going to change overnight because 1 group demands it. That is where the Gay agenda is going completely wrong. Build support for Domestic partnerships to be recognized, Then build support for civil unions. Remove that threat of forcing people to change the long held religious based value.
By continually chasing Gay marriage they are perpetuating the thoughts that churches and pastors will be forced to comply and perform ceremonies contrary to their beliefs.
Yes it's a stupid argument, But very real in fact when a church has already been sued because they refused to allow a gay couple to use their grounds for a marriage ceremony.

To quote my Dad ( a church Deacon) I will never support gay marriage or allow it to be preformed on our church grounds. If they want a domestic partnership I don't care.
They're still going to hell.

History of the Condom
In 1272, the Muslim Arabs invented the condom, using a goat's lower intestine.
In 1873, the British somewhat refined the idea, by taking the intestine out of the goat first.

DE you bring up a good point which I have never thought about.

And I whole heartedly agree with that statement... I now have to rethink my stance on gay unions/marriages however... hmm... :ugeek:

The last episode of Boston Legal made that point quite well, actually.

This post was not reported. However, you should make your moderation statements clearly delineated from your poster statements, as this could easily be construed (as a poster statement) to be vigilante moderation.

There are some liberals that believe that Obama is not strong enough on gay rights, but I don't know of many who would go that far, Nitefox. Which liberals, specifically, are you referring to? Or is that just a generalization? If so, what basis do you have to make it?

I make it based off your logic and how you have treated people, me included, on this very board. You of course have a double standard when it comes to who says what. Obama believes marriage is between a man and a woman? Given a pass, really, deep down he doesn't believe that. Some random conservative person you've never met? Homophobe and bigot.

This post was reported. It is not flaming to answer another posters question.

If it was, I would equally warn the person who asked the question for flame-baiting. We can hold that standard around here, but I personally would find it oppressive.
