I love this opening. The visuals, the music, the geography all laid out. Wonderful.

I hadn't noticed that it was a concave map, though. I'm gonna have to pay attention next time.

Ugh. I'd much rather give Fantasy Flight Games' board game a whirl. It's out of print, though; at least I think they're greenlighting a new run soon.

I actually enjoyed this week's episode. Intrigue is all well and good, but sometimes a guy just wants to watch people fighting with swords and people getting killed.

Spoiler:
Yeah, watching someone chop of their horse's head and another guy getting stabbed in the brain via the eye socket was pretty cool.
I wanted to see the blonde chick and what was going on with her this week. I'm disappointed I have to wait til next week.
Are you going to do the HBO GO thing? Supposedly next week we can watch episode 6 like normal and then episode 7 will be available on HBO GO a week early.

Eep! Sorry Midge! I'm not used to being one of the cool kids who has to use spoiler tags on their posts. ;)

Don't apologize to me, my memory is so bad I wouldn't remember your post by the time I got around to watching anyway.. I was just worried about the others who might be watching later. =)

Gratz on being cool kid... =)

(Ultimately) Minor quibbles with the Eyrie. But damn that distance shot was pretty, even if it's not how I would have depicted it.

Love the sky cells. I've always considered the Eyrie the most badass castle in Westeros.

Spoiler:
Maybe I blocked it from my mind or just didn't remember it but was the Knight of Flowers gay in the books? I remember him in the novels but he wasn't really detailed much.

It was never really delved into either way, Nitefox. I can see how one might imagine such a thing, I guess, if one were predisposed to look for it.

The way I look at it, given that GRRM is pretty involved in the project, it's done with his blessing (and maybe even at his behest? I get the impression the writers for the show have access to notes and "deleted scenes" if you will, as they're doing a lot of filling in some things that didn't get screen time in the books), and doesn't conflict with anything we learn later in the books, so I'm okay with it.

That scene was certainly brand new, in any event.

Book spoilers for the end of Game of Thrones/beginning of Clash of Kings:
Spoiler:
The thing that bothers me more than "Surprise! Renly and Loras are gay for each other!" is the whole notion that Loras is pressing for Renly to make a bid for the throne before the throne's even in play.

That's just kind of... huh? What? That's pretty ludicrously ambitious, dude.

Ok, good. I was just making sure that I didn't somehow forget something.

And I agree with your spoiler. That was out of left field.

I picked up the first book today to start reading it. The TV series has been excellent, and I've been dying to read something lately.

Regarding Loras...

Spoiler:
It was never 100% confirmed in the book, but it was all but spelled out. See this link for more! Note that you'll have to click a dropdown list up at the top of the page to specify which was the last book you read to control what spoilers are shown.

I totally missed it, but when this episode aired I checked the books, and yeah, there are some definite hints.

So I found out they put the episodes online on HBO Go when it is aired on the east coast. So I got to watch tonight's episode three hours early. The next episode is on there as well (early premier of the episode), but I think HBO Go is overloaded, because I can't get it to play.

Yeah, that's our problem too...we were stoked about watching next week's episode on HBO GO but we couldn't even get the site to even begin to load...I guess the traffic is probably unreal right now.

I was able to get it to load after refreshing it a couple times. Awesome episode. The one before it was even better.

I'm shipping the whole "watch next week's episode early" thing because I don't want to be stuck waiting two weeks for the one after that...
