....and I got to the Proto Dome and Lucca started up that little golden humanoid robot.

It came alive, and started playing some music.

My jaw dropped immediately

How could this be?

So I looked it up on youtube....

Did I just get rick rolled by Chrono Trigger?

This is my first time playing this game, please tell me this is actually a good game and not some elaborate ploy to rickroll me?

The beginning, sounds like "The Trial" from "The Wall."

Also, I love the CT OST.

http://kotaku.com/5102689/chrono-trigge ... y-original

I'm not sure I buy this, though!!

Chrono Trigger OST is still listened by me to this very day, some 16 years later. It's one of the few music things as a whole that I listen to now, as I don't really have any specific band or anything I'm listening to at the moment... Xenosaga (first game of which was composed by the same guy as the majority of the CT tracks), some Persona music, and of course various Final Fantasies from time to time are about it, along with the CT OST.

A very big push behind my desire to get a guitar has been as a direct result of Chrono Trigger tracks. You can look up CalebElijah on YouTube and see what I mean. He's not the best guitarist ever by any stretch of the imagination, but maybe that just makes it seem all the more practical for me to do myself.

Now I have that piano YouTube video playing below in the section that shows me what posts I'm replying to, and I must wait for it to finish before I hit Submit...

edit: Bah now I had to go and look up that CalebElijah person to listen again...

Here is a link to his YouTube channel. Be warned though as he does a lot of other video game music, and YouTube is not very functional at all in searching a user's videos.

edit 2: Agh and this Secret of Mana track is hauntingly awesome...

I can't think of a recent RPG that had such memorable music.

Mass Effect. It's better, even.

I'll have to take your word for it, because I don't remember any music from ME. I think I probably just spent more time with each piece in CT? In ME I zip around from place to place and the background music is likely chaning a lot on me.

It's not really fair to compare real music and midi music, either.

Yeah, I remember the midi music more than the "better quality" music. :D

Though, the "better quality" music that made it into memorable territory is definitely better, overall.

I'm thinking the Civ IV title menu song, some of the EQ2 and Vanguard zone music, Starcraft/Starcraft 2 music, etc.

And Thunderscape. But I barely ever run into anybody else that played it.

I'm rather fond of the EQ2 music in general. One of my guild's necromancers back in EQ1 got hired by SOE to work on the sound team for EQ2 and gave me a beta invite.

On "real music" vs midi music: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/ ... game-Music

Tangential: graphics vs aesthetics

I am fond of this video series.

EC is one of the few goods things that Escapist has.
