Still not clicking. I like to be surprised when I watch this show. NF hints around too much as it is.

Ha. Well, this makes me happy. Sean Bean was the main reason I kept considering watching this.

Now that he's gone (and not having read the books, i had no idea Ned dies early until I overheard people at work talking about it) I have absolutely zero interest in watching the rest of the show, which is far more satisfying than having a curiosity combined with a disinclination to watch it.

I generally don't like HBO shows. I don't mind a bit of bad language or sex/nudity or violence (so long as it's not overly gory) in a television show used where artisticly appropriate. From the first half-episode I watched though, it seems that those things take precedence over the rest of the show, and are gratuitously added in when unnecessary to make the same point.

I think it would be right up your alley, actually. The sex scenes are over the top, but the story-line is fantastic.

And it should be noted, that I'm pretty sure the first episode is the sex-densest, scene-count wise.

Well, he's not perfect. He got me into Chuck...now he doesn't like Chuck anymore because nothing ever changed and there was no character development. I, however, think chuck keeps getting better because everything constantly changed and there has been more character development than any show I've ever seen.

So...go figure. ;)

Anyway, our television viewing in this house is pretty much limited to PG-13 type ratings...even stuff we watch after the kids are in bed.

(For the record, for parents wondering whether they want to take their kids to a particular movie, one of the most useful websites I've ever found is http://www.kids-in-mind.com/ - no judging, no making your decisions for you, just an objective numerical rating of the sexual, violence, and language contents in a movie, as well as the specific instances that accounted for the rating.)

I can understand that reasoning much better than your earlier "Sean Bean was the only reason I'd want to watch this...". This show isn't really PG-13.

Now...major BOOK spoiler...don't read if you haven't read.

Based on the reaction Ned's untimely death got, I'm somewhat worried about the Red Wedding and how that will be received by non-book readers. I was somewhat shocked by Ned's death in the books, but it was the Red Wedding that absolutely floored me. I have never been so devastated by a scene in a book. I certainly wouldn't have been as impacted by it if he had died in a battle or something like that. It was just the manner of his death, and the whole thing with sewing Grey Wind's head on his body. I guess that is a problem for season 3 (or 4 depending on if and where they split book 3), but I can definitely see the series losing viewership over that episode. For season 2 I wonder how much they'll telegraph that Bran and Rickon aren't really dead. In the book it gave only the barest indications, which I didn't really get. I was convinced they were dead. Will they allow people to think they are dead outside of a single episode?

Best show EVER!* Loved just about every minute of every episode. I'm about half way through the book. It worked out really well reading along with watching the series.

(I only read a chapter or two a day ... have to go back to the beginning of this thread to understand why I read so 'patiently'. )

It was officially picked up for a second season after the first episode, Lex.

Also, for those that didn't watch the teaser bits for it, the next season appears to officially be titled A Game of Thrones: Part 2 (or was it Season 2?). Either way, I was interested to see whether they kept the Game of Thrones so as not to confuse the viewership, or changed the name to reflect the book it was covering.

I've read about 45 pages of the second book (didn't read the first one, just watched the show) and there have been a couple of things I've read at the beginning of the second book that happened at the end of the TV show, but nothing major.

I send this message from the frst page because I'm scared of spoilers. Just wanted to say that I started this show two days ago and I CAN'T GET ENOUGH. Man, it's so good. I ordered all of the books after watching the first three episodes. So excited about reading/watching this. Upset that I'm so late to the party!

I'm on episode 6 right now, losing sleep each night.
