In keeping with the Steam thread- EA and Gameloft have all or most of their games reduced to 0.99 each for the long weekend.

I picked up copies of Dungeon Hunter 2 (HD) and StarFront (HD) for my iPad- Diablo II and Starcraft clones, respectively.

Lots of sports/driving/board games on the EA side.

I heart the Dungeon Hunter games.

You know, I've seen a lot of ***** about Gameloft because they make carbon copies of famous and popular franchises, but if these franchises have no interest in putting official iterations on the platform, it's great to still get to "play" them. :) And honestly, they've become the best game developer on the platform...their games aren't original, but they're well-made and utilize the platform's strengths.

GOF 2 is awesome... I've done all the gold medals on easy and normal, working on hard now.

Just finished DH 2 now on easy as a rogue, working on it as a warrior now. Very smooth game.

I tried the free demo for Galaxy on Fire. The game looked really cool, but I just couldn't play it. The controls were too awkward for me.

Really? I find the onscreen joystick really easy to use. Tilt controls, not so much.

With the haste boosts from skills, both the death walker and berserker are amazingly powerful, just get a few life leech weapons and plow through stuff.

Have you guys figured out the good farming spots yet?

There are four quick ways to get to epic chests- one early game, one mid-game, one late game, one end game.

Early game- the Bogwitches lair. Exit, re-enter, and you can open it again. The witch stays dead.

Mid-game- the chests in the Bandit lair (grab the quest first). If you open all three chests, but then die to the queen, you keep the loot and re-spawn just before the first chest. You can repeat a lot.

Late-game: My favorite cycle is Fallen Kingdom/Sky- run to the epic chest/vendor in Fallen Kingdom, run back to the entrance and use the world map to get to the Air Fairy's lair- run to the two chests at the end, go back to Fallen Kingdom, repeat.

Endgame: Zone out to Darkwood (from the Ruined Plane), zone back in and run to where the Dark Queen's demon spawned- there's a chest just behind him. You can do the run in a few seconds, and it's the best way to get a full set of class gear- although it can take a while to get the bits you need.

Also, I find it really helpful once you're in the higher modes to set the auto-transmute setting to "purple and below", so you only collect gold items. It really helps save you from having to clear inventory all the time. You can also set blue and below if you want the purples.

I use the end game scenario exactly as you describe. I swear the game hates warriors, cause the chests usually drop caster gear for me.

Running into the same issue on my DW.

Oh look... I found a full set of caster gear... but I am still unable to find one effing piece of shadow armor.

I finally got the 5/5 achievement for all of my Shadow armor on Heroic.

Working on the Fury set for my berserker now. A ton of it dropped when I was going for my shadow armor, none's dropping on my berserker.

Dungeon Hunter 4 was released today. It goes back to the series' roots; none of that "arena battle" nonsense of DH3. The game is ridding with purchases (including a limit of 3 health potions per day), but the app itself is free and fully playable without in-app money wasting.

On the plus side, it's never looked, played, or emulated Diablo better. Even the music now evokes Blizzard's.

Galaxy on Fire 2 - My thread on this game covers what I think of it along with several others' reviews of it. I can reccommend this game highly enough for iOS.

Re: the Dungeon Hunter series - I just DLed DH4 free and have played it just a bit so far (Still loving Magicka: Wizards of the Square Tablet). I see others raving about DH2, but it is currently $6.99 and I am not about to drop that when I have plenty else to keep my busy. What I have noticed so far in DH4, is that everything seems tied to the diamonds that will speed up upgrades and socketing and such.

Does that hamper the game any? Farsky, I know you said it is fully playable with out the IAPs, but do you know if it really drags it down if you don't waste real $$$ on the diamonds?

I love what I see in the game so far, but I don't want to invest time in it if the game is just going to stymie me becuase I don't spend real money.

Also, I'll put my $0.02 in again for Magicka: Wizards of the Square Tablet. If you played and liked the PC version, $1.99 for this is an absolute no-brainer.

The IAP-centricness certainly doesn't improve the experience. I haven't played much past the tutorial part, so I haven't had to sit through any unfunded upgrade/healing/whatnot lag. I do imagine, given the pervasiveness of the IAP systems that they've implemented, that it will rear its ugly head.

I enjoyed DH2, although it had it's issues. Definitely didn't get as much play out of it as, say, GoF2.

I'm also kinda pissed that I can't play DH4 on my iPad 1- not because the system can't handle it, but because it requires a gyroscope.

That said, I'm also really enjoying Magicka- but if you like it, I'd also highly recommend Battleheart.

Battleheart is a similar playstyle to Magicka, but you control a party of 4 rather than a single. You've got all your normal RPG classes, and you control by drawing lines- drawing from your healer to another party member heals, from your ranged DPS to an enemy to attack, from your tank to an enemy to taunt, etc.

You can play a lot of interesting party combos, and the play is really quite fluid.

It is slow at the beginning until your weapons and DPS get a bit better, but it's quite fast & hectic at the higher levels.

I also really like that you can snare & kite on the ranger :-D
