A mom on my support group got this tattoo to remember her dead baby...if you look closely, it's a heart with a small hole in it with a sunbeam coming out of the hole and a smaller heart floating away....she is upset because her aunt told her it looks like a wang, and everyone is telling her its such a beautiful tattoo and her aunt is just soooo evil, but seriously....from the distance that most people will see it on her skin, it really does look like a penis. I can't tell her that, nor can I laugh about it because I would be cursed to hell for being an awful person, so, I brought it here.

Yeah, I feel terrible for her but I can't tell her either because I don't know that there is a way to fix it.

Yes, I cropped the pic down on purpose because that is the thumbnail view that I got initially and also what I assume to be the view that people IRL would get from being around her in public which is a much more realistic view than the close-up photo that everyone was oohing and ahhing over.

Is there any way to fix that or is she just stuck with a Wang on her chest for the rest of her life? And should I tell her or not?

Well, it already looks circumcised, so a mohel is out. But a good tattoo artist may be able to add in some clouds, widen the sunbeam, etc. to deemphasize the dickerdoodleyness of it.

While I would love to agree with this... I am fairly sure, up close it looks like a dick too.

She obviously does not know any of those or else they would have mentioned the phallic nature of the work before they did it. If I had to guess I would say she decided to go with whoever had the best price around her, not paying enough attention to the quality of the artist.

Or she is one of the people who would actually be inked by one of the taint-lickers on a show like Tattoo School.

She is just a naive, grieving mom who wanted to get something permanent to memorialize her baby....sadly, many people who do this simply do not do the research beforehand.

There are ways to fix it.

1. Coverup by a decent tattoo artist
2. Laser tattoo removal (tho the yellow may be difficult)
3. Wear a shirt

Of all the things you/we have to worry about, this should not be high on the list. Get a giggle and let someone else help her figure it out.

I'm no expert, but that looks like some really amateur-ish work. Like one of those supposed tattoo guys who just copies a pic and transfers it to the skin, then simply colors by the numbers.

1. Don't tell her it looks like a penis.
2. If anything, take her to a good artist and have some touch-ups done.

If you are going to defile your body with ink, at least pay extra and have an artist do it, IMHO.

Ok my kids just walked up behind me and saw the pic over my shoulder..."Ewwww, gross, mom!"
I had to explain to them it was not a penis and they still didn't believe me.

Sam, I'm not going to tell her...unfortunately, it's an online support group and I don't have contact with her IRL or I would definitely be taking her out to get it fixed.

I can most definitely understand wanting to get something to memorialize a lost child, but of all the things to not skimp on quality for...

I dunno, I guess I'm in the minority, but when viewing the up-close version, I'm not sure 'penis' would be my first thought.

I think the problem with this tattoo is lack of context. It obviously has meaning to her, but to anyone seeing it for the first time, without any other context, are going to go where their minds take them until it's explained.
