The Glade 4.0

Not a rant or a rave, just an off-topic thread where I need your brain power. Maybe some of you guys have done something like this?

If you were going to live out of a vehicle for periods of 2 days to weeks at a time, how would you arrange it?

The truck is Ranger/S-10/Colorado/Dakota size with a camper shell. Two pieces of memory foam in the bed on top of a piece of particle board which is suspended by support drilled into bed liner with anchors and braced off the wheel wells. The structure would also be reinforced in the middle with 4x4's that are waffle cut to ride in the grooves of bed liner so they can act like columns. This would double as a place to sleep and storage underneath the bed.

The camper shell would be blacked out.

Any other ideas?

Sounds like an excellent start. I highly recommend plenty of water (my personal preference is for 1-gallon jugs) and foodstuffs that can be both stored and eaten at the prevailing ambient temperature.

I brought 4 gallons of water and a dozen bagels to Woodstock '94, and when I was living in a tent on the Ren Faire campsite I stocked ramen packets (eaten dry and washed down with lots of water) and PB&J fixin's.

Inside lock, air flow, don't run the truck while at rest, key ring clip for your jeans, enough blankets to keep warm, light enough to stow when not needed, baby wipes, your own TP, a couple decks of cards, a rugged laptop with good wifi, plenty of underwear and socks, a head covering you can wear when asleep, laundromat money, books (or kindle type thing) what Shel said, a good camping level knife, emergency phone card stashed somewhere, vitamins, basic med kit, basic hygiene kit, maps of the area living in or traveling through that are not internet reliant, a list of Glade denizens along the travel route.

Hope for the best, plan for the worst.

Well, this was my observer/controller packing list. I probably should have scrubbed it a little more carefully.

I'm assuming you've got a food/water/waste plan in mind. Where are you going to be living? Urban "camping" takes a bit different gear than rural. How about the climate? Proximity to other people? Law enforcement? Little more info and I might have some experience to impart upon you.

I should probably add some clarification. This is a lot simpler than outright living in a truck. I will still be living in a typical arrangement. I would just like a setup I could drive out into the middle of nowhere and live in for a few days at a time.

Slut lamp. <-- look it up you know you want to.
Tarp(s) (I prefer the ones with the reflective/black side. Use it as a windbreak for the truck. makes a difference)
Small dustpan for cleaning out the odd dirt.
OFF spray
small hatchet (I have a boarding axe I made from a european fire axe)
Full tang knife
ways to sharpen stuff
Poncho
a way to cook you are comfortable with. Look up hobo stoves
Paracord paracord paracord!
tent stakes appropriate for the ground youre working with.
First aid kit with antibiotics. Then pack extra.


I prefer a minimalist approach when camping, but the vehicle gives you a chance to bring some good comforts.
