Speak with your wife about the increased % of your household budget food has become.

Extreme Couponing is a fascinating television show. Housewives dedicating 40-60 hour weeks to coupon collecting and shopping. Sometimes they're planned so well, the store actually pays them.

If they want to spend 40-60 hours a week working to save 150 bucks in groceries (or whatever amount they spend a week, that's around what I end up spending a week) maybe they should get a minimum wage job instead and make 3-4 times that much...

I'd say the majority of time the people doing the couponing are house wives who would be home watching the kids anyway. I'm not talking $150 trips here, either, some of these are $650 loads that people take home for free.

The fact the US$ have been weak have also contributed. Our imported stuff have been going down steadily (via specials), like coke or chocolate. Some things have gone down by 50% simply cause our dollar is strong.

In other news, I now need to go on a diet... after consuming 2 kg of chocolate over the weekend... *shakes fist at cheap chocolates* :psyduck:

There are potential other factors here. Child care and transportation among them...

I maintain the data. I just haven't processed it to generate a time curve.

Yeah, but it's $650 of crap processed food, empty calories, and more toiletries than anyone needs. What the hell do I care if I can get a 12 pack of Coke for 20 cents? And how many bars of soap do you really need, even if you're getting them cheap?

I might try it if I could find coupons for fresh produce, unprocessed meats, and staple ingredients.

Taamar is right...with few exceptions, most of the extreme couponers are just hoarding crap they don't need and will not use before it expires...and the food is usually as Taamar said, processed junk. I tried to coupon and it's just not doable for us...we don't need to save .50 on cokes or frozen cheap nasty pizzas because we don't eat them, and who needs 30 cans of tomato sauce for $15? Not us. And the non food item coupons in the sunday paper are for name brand things that we dont use because even with a coupon, the generic is still cheaper. Easier to shop sales and look for healthy stuff as opposed to using coupons for crap we wouldn't normally buy.

I have been able to do pretty good with coupons. Sadly I am too lazy to give it much effort.
