My aunt lost her battle with lung cancer last night.

-Thank you for the years of memories.
-Thank you for not only remembering my birthday each and every year, but also making sure that a birthday card was in my mailbox no later than the day before my birthday.
-Thank you for making Memorial Day more than just a national holiday every year with your huge family picnic.

You are gone too soon, 61 years was not enough.
Rest in Peace.

It feels like as I get older, the deaths seem to get closer and closer to you. I have been up nights leading up to this thinking about her, my uncle, her kids (my age), grandkids, and even my mother. Knowing that their mother\wife\grandmom\sister is slowly dying must take such a toll, but each of them got to spend her last days, even hours with her.

For the physical suffering, I imagine being able to say your early goodbyes to your family makes up for it. I guess it is the best you can hope for in such a terrible situation.

Goodbye Aunt Joan. I will miss you.

One of my cousins just posted a FB tribute to her and in his quote, he likened cancer to the Terminator...

Quote:
It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever..."

Intentional or not, I don't know. But a heartfelt tribute, nonetheless.
