As far as I know, the first ever drive-by shooting in my neighborhood happened about an hour ago. Across the street and two doors down, where the alleged drug dealers live. The dad died earlier this year, but he had major health issues and it was because of those. Now one of his daughters, one I watched grow from a rotten little girl to an unpleasant young woman lives there with her boyfriend, fiance or husband, I'm not quite sure, they have a child, though I've never met either the guy or the kid.

There were a series of 5-8 single shots, I wasn't counting, then it went to semi-auto, then it stopped. I didn't hear a car which surprised me. It amazed me how quickly people started rushing out in the street to see what was going on. I ducked behind another wall and deeper into the house. Then I went outside to look, most of the neighborhood was out there, then five police cars arrived. One ran by asking if anyone had seen anything, we all said no. Patrol cars are still out there, cops are in the house, they haven't carried anyone out yet, don't know if anyone is hurt or dead.

I'm feeling a little shaky, not too bad. Wish I could say I was surprised, but if anyone had asked where a drive by might happen in the neighborhood, I would have guessed that house.

Maybe they'll leave now, that would be a positive ending.

Really, this is a quiet little blue collar neighborhood and most of us don't make any more noise than mowing our lawns. I'd like it to stay that way, a boring neighborhood is far preferable.

oh damn, glad to hear you're okay Micheal

hopefully your other neighbors won't start leaving en masse and drive down the property values with their rush to sell like what happened in the neighborhood I grew up in after there was a murder in the subdivision..

apparently this late at night/early in the morning I get a bit pessimistic and cranky.. but I'm seriously glad that you weren't hurt

That's absolutely awful! I'm so glad you are ok, Micheal. I would be shaken up too. Of course, my dumb-butt would have probably gone straight to the window at the first shot. I'm glad you had the wisdom to go for cover. Stray bullets through houses are rare but they do happen. *hugs* I sincerely hope for your and your neighborhood's sake that that was the last of it.

Glad your ok.

Is there a neighborhood watch or anything? Getting the neighbors together and watching the problem house like hawks and calling the police on them for every little thing you can might help drive them out. Even if it doesn't at least they may wise up if they know they are being watched closely.

Michael,

I am very glad you are ok.

For those who don't live in Sacramento:

It's a really nice little neighborhood. Not necessarily as bad as many around here, not super-wealthy either, but good. I'd feel safe there.

I hope everyone is okay and those responsible are caught.

Amazingly, three people were home, including a toddler. None were hit. Over 20 bullets entered the house, all through walls, no windows were hit. No clue as to what happens next.

No bystanders were harmed in the performance of this drive-by.

The shooters were either very bad or very lucky, depending on your point of view.

OMG! They were very lucky! The shooters will probably never be found, although I hope they are!

I'm just happy you are okay Micheal!!

Sounds like its time to muster the local unorganized militia members.

And do what? Seems unlikely that anyone saw anything or is willing to tell what happened.

Elm, some of the neighbors think it was the local unorganized militia that did the drive by trying to drive the alleged drug dealers that live in the shot-up house out.

I disagree, I think it is much more likely to be a warning from a rival dealer that this is his territory now.

We'll see what happens, plenty of police showed up, plenty of bullets were taken into evidence. Though with no one killed or wounded I have a feeling our local gendarmes will not be burning the midnight oil on this one.
