I really need a road bike. I have a thing for speed (Its why I drive an SUV... If I had a sports car I wouldn't have a license anymore  ).

The past couple of nights I've been going around the park by my house and pushing myself a bit more than normal. Tonight I spent 90% of the ride on the big front ring and it was GLORIOUS!

A month or two ago, I was spent and almost passing out in the driveway after 20 mins of riding. Now I'm bombing down the big straight from the park at full speed and loving it!

Excellent! Welcome to the addiction. For a guy your size, an aluminum road bike might do the trick - very stiff. Carbon will be a bit more forgiving. Performance bike shops had a sale last week on their in-house brand (Scattante), and a couple of those looked pretty sweet in the $1000-$1400 range. What I found interesting is that they didn't even have any steel road bikes in the store. All carbon fiber and aluminum.

I'm looking at a few different ones. I think the top of the list are:
Specialized Sirrus Elite
Trek FX 7.3 Disc
Specialized Crosstrail Sport Disc

About in the $800 range give or take. Its a ways down the road, but its fun to look ;)

I've really gotta justify replacing my old Specialized HardRock. It's only 19 years old but it's damn reliable.

Hah, my bike is the same age. Specialized Stumpjumper FS. It's like an old friend, by this time.

I have since evaluated my choices, and am more than likely going to try and get a Felt z85. :)

Yeah I bought an aluminum frame Giant bike several years ago, and it is wonderful. The only change I will likely make to it is to replace the steel fork with a carbon fiber one, to not only reduce the weight but reduce road vibration.

You won't be sad. They are super light and super fast!
