Something that irks me to no end:

I am not currently job hunting, I like my job and my coworkers. But if I am approached and asked to send my resume, I may do it. I am not going to snub my nose at an opportunity.

But if I do provide my resume (on request), it is fine if I am not offered a job: but have the courtesy to notify me if you opt not to hire me. After all... You came looking for me: not the other way around.

Get used to it...it has become acceptable now, even if *they* approach *you* and not the other way around, for employers to give you no feedback whatsoever.
I had a temp agency call me and ask me to apply for an in-house position, which included filling out a 20 essay-question online interview and completing 3 online skill set tests that took at least 30-45 min apiece....I never got a call back or so much as an email. After two weeks, I called them back and they "took a message" for the hiring manager...no one called me back.
I'd be angry if that was the only instance, but it's not...I've run into similar experiences many times over the past 9 months....only one company sent me a timely and polite rejection letter, and another company sent me a rejection email but it was 5 months after the interview.

I got a call from a former co-worker. He was the VP of Operations before my company sold. He went over to a new group and said "Hey, we would love to have you come over, send me your resume."

So since we already had a working relationship and he was an awesome MoFo to work with... I expected better/more from him.

Had it been some random dude.. I would have been surprised if the email address was even valid. :)

Ah. Well, all I can say is, try not to take it personally, but yeah, I would have expected better as well...things aren't what they used to be though...technology has removed the obligation for a lot of ettiquette it seems.

I got even worse when I was job hunting, sometimes the guy you interviewed with will block your number to avoid talking to you when you call back to try and figure out how it went. I caught more than one HR guy doing this, leave a message and try for a week to reach them and they never pick up, then call them on someone else's phone and they pick up instantly.

Xeq, I've heard of things like that going on, but in our town it's because of the sheer volume of applicants...for a decent minimum wage paying job, they can expect around 100 applications a day. If someone spends all their time trying to field these phone calls and such, they wouldn't have time for any of the other aspects of their job.

They might have 100 applicants, but they certainly didn't do 100 interviews.

No, they didn't/don't. In our area: They are able to throw away most of the application based on errors in grammar, criminal records, etc. Some places do interview (like the new restaurant) but most places just don't bother and go by word of mouth. As in, if you know someone who knows someone who recommends you, you'll get an interview and possibly a job.
If no one knows you, your application just gets "filed away" with the rest of the rejects.
