All I know is, people say it's awesome. I haven't given it a shot because I'm pretty happy with my Zune Pass.

I set up an account before I left work today and downloaded the client. This was a bit confusing, as the client was asking for login credentials, and it didn't like my Facebook login information. I had to get a separate login (some #) and password to get the client to work. Since there doesn't seem to be an option to play music directly from the webpage, I'm not sure the purpose of even logging into the website via Facebook.

The interface looks a lot like Itunes or WMP11. I shouldn't be surprised at that. It'd be nice to have an option for a smaller window, particularly if I just want to play from a predetermined playlist. Perhaps it supports that; I haven't checked. I checked a couple of songs, and I was surprised to find Japanese music in their database. Again, I shouldn't be surprised, since this is apparently a Swedish startup and it makes sense that they'd have an international base.

I got home and tried to set up my home PC to play. I then spent 5 minutes trying to log into the website via Facebook. It just sat there every time I clicked the button. I finally realized that it was waiting for a popup window that wasn't appearing. Chrome wasn't indicating that it blocked a popup, so I don't know if it was a problem with the server sending the html or the client throwing it away. I spent another few minutes trying to figure out how to do that, and finally I remembered that I had created that secondary login credential. I logged in as that and I was set.

Overall, from the few minutes I've played around with Spotify, it looks like a promising app. I had some issues with the interface, but I'm not sure those aren't my errors instead of the service's. This service coincidentally matches something that I mentioned to my friend this morning, about having a service that allowed me to stream music on demand.

I've used it, sort of ... I mean, I have it and I've listened to a couple of tracks once or twice, but honestly - when I want to listen to music, I go to Turntable or Slacker.

On the streaming music front, if anybody wants Google Music beta invites, I've got 8.

For those not familiar, you upload your own music to Google's servers, and they'll stream it back to you on your smartphone, any computer with a web browser, etc.

I don't like how Spotify kept posting songs I played to Facebook even after I turned off the option, which is on by default. Eventually I had to go into Facebook and remove permissions from the app.

Please, can I have an invite?

This is the coolest thing I've heard of in a week.

I might have been interested in Spotify if I had gotten in before the Facebook requirement that just got implemented. Since I'm not interested in Facebook, Spotify won't get my business.

I discovered Mog a while back, it came up in an audio magazine as the vendor with the highest bitrate quality. They have a free account now, I have a paid account so everything that's available I can stream at 320kb. Check it out - http://www.mog.com.

5 bucks for the PC streaming account (currently what I have, listen all day at work)
10 bucks for PC and phone/tablet streaming, as well as phone/tablet downloads.

They offer facebook account integration as well, but it's not mandatory, I use a seperate account.

Well internally inside Spotify, you can see the playlists of your friends from Facebook, which is a cool feature. However, I agree that the requirement of having Facebook is annoying. These are relatively minor issues in my opinion.

"Spotify not out to completely embarrass you via Facebook anymore"

I'm glad that they are recognizing they were being a little too zealous about the sharing.

How did you get to that page? I can't find it anywhere on their site.

When I went to their site, the welcome back page I was at had a sign up link that led to that page. You're right, after clearing my cache, I couldn't find a link back to it. Screw you Facebook, and your infection of all things not shitty!

(Still, looks like you could create a non-facebook enabled account from it. Just annoyed they hid it away).

If you have any left, I'd dig on that.
