So I keep getting a call from some 877 number and it's always a voice-recorded message saying:"Your resume has been recieved by our company, and we believe you have the skills and abilities to be successful. We're hiring, and would like to discuss the possibility of scheduling an interview with you this week..."
I always figured this was junk mail or a scam, (one of us Gladers posted something similar awhile back?), but I ran out of jobs to apply for today and gave them a call back.
*ring ring*
"Hello this is, ____, with American Income Life Insurance"
"Hi, I received a phone call from your company indicating that you were hiring, what kind of company is this?"
"Yes, we sell supplemental insurance to unions."
"Is this a telecommuting job?"
".....(pause).....Ma'am, I don't know what that word means. But this job would be a local opportunity...."

Blah blah blah.

Here's their website in case they call you too...save you the trouble of calling and talking to an idiot: http://www.ailcareers.com/american_inco ... about.aspx

If you start trying to sell me life insurance, I'm not visiting you again.

I'm not selling anything, I was just curious if it was a real job or not.....funny how I still don't have an answer to that question...

Anywhere that sends you a recording talking about your resume and a job opportunity should be avoided at all costs and considered a joke IMO.

Pretty much what I concluded too, Lenas. If anything, it would wind up being like Avon...those who are naive and desperate enough to "sign-on" wouldn't realize until it was too late that THEY were the customer.

It's a real job selling life insurance. However you have to put money out to get certified, get trained, then you have to sell life insurance to make any money. Likely you don't get paid to take training or sit on your butt, you only get commission for selling life insurance or signing some other poor smuck up to do it instead. If it's free, go to their little seminar, but they'll likely tell you what I just did, only with sugar coating.

If you don't have anything else (and can afford the training) it might be worth while to go through the training and whatnot until you find a job that actually pays a wage. It looks far better on a resume than "unemployed" and counts as "sales Experience"

I've been getting automated calls on my cell phone regarding the "foreclosure" on my house...not that my house is in foreclosure! How long does it take to get on the No Call List anyway??

I've been getting those calls too Jasmy. Since I don't have a mortgage, I just laugh. If you listen all the way to the end of the message they apologize if you are a renter or don't have a mortgage in foreclosure.
