It boils down to even distribution of effort. If, in general, men have to lift the toilet seat up, why should they also have to put the toilet seat back down?

Because you theoretically love the women in your household and don't want to get your *** kicked by the polizei? (this refers to a story I previously posted)

If you love us why make us put it down when we also need to put it up?

Seriously your argument can be used both ways and is designed to avoid talking sensibly about an issue because any issue can become "do it because you love me"?

Never been married, have you.

Why marry and promise ... whatever it is you promise? I promised to forsake all others, to place my partners goals and ambitions equal to my own, and to actually BE a partner, where it takes two yeses to be a yes but only one no to be a no.

All that I promised, because I loved them. That's really what it's all about, it sure isn't about logic or being sensible.

Does being married really have anything to do with it? What about a room mate? Or live in significant other? Brothers and Sisters? Mothers and Fathers? Extended family?

Jesus christ this whole argument is so stupid. Be an adult and look at the toilet before you sit down. If it needs to be lifted, do so. If it needs to be put down, do so. It has nothing to do with mutual respect or how much you love someone or how many times you need to piss per day.

I have never understood this argument from either side. I always check where the seat is at even in the dead of night, if you can't do that you deserve what happens (either falling in or peeing on the seat, either way clean up is needed) Personally I always put the seat and the lid down because I have had things fall in that I don't want to and to keep the dog from using it as a water dish.

Marry whomever you wish for whatever reasons you wish, I'll do the same and one of my reasons will be that they are reasonable.

The answer to 'how do you housebreak a guy' is 'You don't'. If having the seat put down is important to you find a seat-putter-downer. If you find a man who is perfect except for the seat thing you decide if you want to keep him and deal with the seat or dump him and try to find someone who matches all of your wants. In the end it's about deciding which things on your list are priorities, and accepting the areas in which the person you love is not absolutely ideal. Keep in mind that he's doing the same thing.

You can't control or change people. You can only pre-select to the best of your ability.
