I have this month's Reader's Digest in front of me and the cover story is titled, "50 Secrets Nurses won't tell you"

So, is there anything you want to come clean about before I start spilling the beans about what you and your ilk are saying/doing behind our collective patients' backs?

Hmmmmm? ;)

Why pick on Kirra, though? Colphax, too, right?

Lol there are many things I don't tell my patients... And things that aren't quite the truth..

1. This won't hurt much.

2. I can't decide not to give you the shot, but I do decide what gauge needle to use, and it is directly proportional to how you treat me.

3. I am not your personal assistant and you are not my only patient.

4. Your family are crazy bunch of people.

5. If you piss me off, call me names and are drunk and an ******* ....I will suggest that a foley is needed. Then I get to choose the size and whether I use lube or not.

Being an ER nurse is tons of fun :). Truth though...if you are nice and patient...I will jump through hoops to make things the best they can...I think that is universal with all nurses.

This is why I never wrote nurses tickets... in case one of them ended up working on me.

I'm going to refer my daughter to you for advice! (In her first semester of nursing at University of Toledo)

:p I'm not a mean nurse, Midgen...There are just limits to my patience :)

I love police officers, I've never gotten a ticket! We take care of each other! I took care of a police officer the other day, he was chasing a perp and fell and dislocated his shoulder. He had several nurses making him comfy :).

Any questions your daughter has, DE, I will try to help!

I'll ask her when she's home at Christmas. IIRC she has her first nursing class this semester along with biology, chemistry and whatever else and she might have some after that.

Is she doing a two-year or a four-year nursing degree?

I ask, because the math requirement for the two-year degree is lower (and I believe it does not require physics, nor as much chemistry). There were many women I worked with, women who held two-year nursing degrees and were looking to upgrade to the four-year, who expressed their regrets that they hadn't gone ahead and taken the higher level algebra course when they did their two-year program.

Oftentimes the advisers will tell them, "Oh you only have to take X, Y, and Z class." While true, skimping on algebra and chemistry has burned many young ladies when the time came to pursue higher level nursing certifications.

Police don't let me off even though I'm a Ranger, I feel left out.

I was pulled over 10ish times in my life before becoming a park ranger, only ended up with a ticket once. I've been pulled over twice since, and came out with a ticket both times. Once I was even in my uniform on the way to work.

Dude almost all of us are rangers.

They don't cut us breaks all that often either. Of course, a guy at another station near me got a DUI the other night - and in the process caused a 4-car wreck that killed a guy, and T-boned a cop and sent him to the hospital. I can't say I blame them. The **** is looking at 20 years now, and I hope he gets every **** day of it. The accident happened like 2 minutes from my house at an intersection my wife and I drive through all the time.

4 year. I don't believe University of Toledo offers a 2-year. She's good at math and science.

Spiffy. Then it's probably moot. I've just heard, "I wish I had..." or, "I wish someone had told me..." enough times that I started telling people.

She originally wanted to go to Ohio State, but then after seeing it thought it would be too big for her, and settled on Toledo. While I was away earlier this year, she got it into her head she "wasn't ready" to go to college and "needed 2 years" at the local community college to get ready to go to an actual college. I'm fairly sure that she would have ended up in the 2-year program if she had done that sonce the real reason was that the family was moving to Texas and she saw it as a way to A) live with grandma and grandpa and B) keep the high school scene going another 2 years.

She never wants to hear anything from her mom, so I had to deal with this when I got home and I pointed out that, despite her assumptions, it was not actually easier for anyone if she went to the community college, least of all her grandparents who would have to house her (and of course she thought she'd be getting a car out of this deal too, to go to class, and gallivant about with her friends). She was more than ready, and once I took her out to actually see the campus, the objections disappeared.

She's doing pretty well now, but I'm sure if she had gone to the community college, I'd be hearing "I wish I had.." down the road. She's also enjoying school a lot more than she was afraid of, which I knew was going to happen. If a kid can handle the academic work and its at all affordable, it's better for them to go to college away from home. Part of the experience is learning to take care of yourself.

You have absolutely no sense of humor, do you? You probably have the luxury of telling someone to get the **** out of your office if they are rude and swear at you....it's hard for me to believe even in your profession that you would work to your fullest capability, if at every turn your client told you you were a **** whore and to leave them the **** alone. Would you still make them money??

I cannot tell anyone to get out or say..fine..go ahead and leave. We treat to the best of our ability and make jokes to get by.

Having a sense of humor is what allows me to do what I do. I see many bad things...and deal with many horrible outcomes. Humor keeps me and many nurses sane.

It would be nice to sit at a desk and work a 9-5, no weekends, no holiday schedule. But, it's not what my career let's me do..and yet I wouldnt trade it for another ever.

Easy, girl... Easy...

A) I was also joking. I do, however, find it a bit odd that you feel I am supposed to know when you are joking, but you make no effort to reciprocate.

B) I work nothing resembing the schedule you described. In fact, I'm in my office as we speak. Ill be here until 10 or 11 tonight, and ill be back tomorrow morning by 6 am. Its a fairly typical week.

C) I do have the option to refuse to take on clients, but once they have invested with me, my hands are somewhat tied.

Most of my posts are interspersed with emotes... Which would be a good indication that I am joking... But maybe you didn't notice them.

I did assume that you were not joking...I guess this is based on my Internet impression of you, I apologize that I jumped to the wrong conclusion.

I could also jump to other conclusions based on your peace offering :p
