They avoided the time sensitive stuff, at least in regard to the main plot, in the last 2 games.

I can understand the complaints bout the series a lot more in regard to Daggerfall than the other 3 games. I had high hopes for it after Arena, but it was the worst of the 3 in most regards IMO, especially in the "WTF am I supposed to be doing here?" factor.

In all of my playthroughs in this game I always played a rogue/ranger/archer and I'd creep into position and snipe from a vantage point where multiples could not reach me. Most of the fun in these games for me have been sneaking and criting with a bow.

In Daggerfall, or in the others of the series?

I liked archery better in oblivion than in the previous games.

Never got a chance to try daggerfall. Starting in Morrowind.

The embargo on reviews has apparently been lifted:

http://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-360/the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim/critic-reviews

I count 10 perfect scores, and 25 scores above 90 so far.

I'm guessing it's probably an alright game.

I played Sniper type the first time through oblivion, and loved the experience. I imagine I'll be back playing the same way this time. I've got plans this weekend, but other than that I'll be fully immersed.

Because we at VideoGamer.com care about our audience, we'd like to offer anyone planning to play Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim a couple of pieces of advice. First off, if you have any long term commitments like say, a job or friends or a significant other, we suggest you ring them to make your excuses now - you don't want to get sacked or dumped over a video game, and letting your friends think you've died or been kidnapped due to lack of communication is just plain rude. Furthermore, it might be worth making sure that your gas and electricity bills have been paid, and that you have enough provisions to last you until spring. You're going to need time for Skyrim and lots of it.

My co-worker just informed me (as I was gushing about playing the game tomorrow) that his best friend in high school (who he no longer corresponds with sadly) works for Bethesda software. We looked him up--sure enough. VP of product development.

Now if he can just get me into betas.....

If someone had offered me to join a Skyrim beta I would have, without a second's hesitation, flat-out told them "Not a chance in hell." I play these games for immersion. Betas are the very opposite of that. They exist to find all of the bugs, and get said bugs reported on. I don't want that at all.

Cool that your friend's friend is the VP. Is his name Todd?

Ah ok. For a moment I was thinking he might have known this guy. He's basically bethesda's John Romero (circa 1993).

Dual wielding early on in the game doesn't seem to give any major benefit as your attack with a one-handed weapon is just as fast. The only early benefit is you can combine power-attacks from both hands.

However, as you find weapons with different enchants, and as you spec into dual-wielding perks, it will become a far more potent dps-dishing method.

I approve.

(I know I said I don't like dual-wielding rangers.... this guy is a dagger-wielding assassin :-))

He's playing the PC version. I kept getting Steam notifications that he was playing last night while I was playing New Vegas. I kept thinking how much I hated him because he was playing it and how I have to wait until my new computer arrives before I can play.

If you're playing on 360, don't install to drive until they patch it:

Yeah but at the end of it, both of you guys will have a brand new PC and Skyrim. So I have very little pity. :) Going to be so awesome!
