The Glade 4.0

This is something I've often pondered and my conclusion is ultimately, the market will hash (haha) it out. There would be a competitive advantage for employers that currently test to not test their employees provided habitual smoking wouldn't be detrimental to the employee's ability to perform his job determined at the discretion of the employer. However, I would gather it would still be perfectly legal and within the employer's rights to make testing a provision of employment.

My theory is that companies don't care if you use drugs, they just don't want addicts that are going to compromise them to feed their addiction. That's why most just do one pre-employment test or give everyone weeks of notice before actually doing tests. They figure that if you can stay clean long enough to pass a urine test, they don't need to care whether you actually smoke or not.

I don't think the issue would be so much the habitual nature of use or not, as opposed to actually working while high which could be hazardous in a large variety of ways.

I was random tested when I was a driver. I knew we did random testing, but I didn't know I had been selected until I walked into work that day.

Every employer I've ever worked for had pre-employment testing, but I've never been randomly tested on the job.

Every employer I've worked for, except the University, had both.

Never had an employer that did drug testing. Never had a drug test. Have never done any illegal drugs.

Coincidence always seemed as though it would dictate that if I ever did try marijuana, on a whim whatever employer I had at the time would suddenly and without warning put a plan into place, or a brilliant job opportunity would open up with drug testing as a criterion.

Blood and saliva are more valid media for the presence of active cannaboids where urine, as Khross pointed out, is generally preferred to test for the presence of metabolites which are a better indication of habitual use rather than active use.

I can honestly say, I would rather enjoy a smoke once a week or so. My job does a better job of melting my brain than any chemical could.

Try not to stand so close to the reactor. That might help.

I would postulate that even were I to stand inside primary containment (and able to survive in the inert atmosphere) right next to the reactor, the procedural activities would still melt my mind faster than unshielded radiation.

That said, I prefer the feeling of a clear mind in general.

My job does pre-employment, random, and mandatory post reportable accident testing. Pretty much you'd have to be an idiot to think you could get away with it for any length of time. Considering I've never so much as smoked before, its not a burden to me.

Imagine how big the OWS protests would get if pot were legalized and Employers and Health Insurance companies were forced to take a hard stand on testing.

Producing alcohol is kinda legal. Growing your own tobacco is legal, in small quantities. I don't think either of these activities is very common. Is growing your own marijuana that much different?
