For what it's worth, Barnes & Noble has announced a follow-up to the Nook Color as a proper, purpose-built tablet that looks set to compete directly against the Kindle Fire.

They're partnering with Netflix and Hulu since they don't have their own streaming media service.

To clarify, there's not exclusivity here. Netflix is also available on the Kindle Fire. I don't know about Hulu, but I imagine it will be as well, if not at launch.

Can you imagine releasing a tablet without Hulu/Netflix on it? Ugh, just bury that thing right away.

Oh. That's news to me, I thought it was exclusively pushing the Amazon streaming stuff. I admit, I wasn't paying that much attention to the Fire, because I need neither a Kindle nor a tablet.

Barnes & Noble hasn't exactly been advertising that as a non-exclusive...not that I'd expect them to, but the volume at which they've been touting them is generally reserved for exclusives. It's rather like advertising that it does email. Well, yeah, technically it does...but so does everyone else's.

I think it's helped that Amazon has NOT been touting that ability, instead focusing on Amazon's streaming prime video collecting and book lending. I had to look to verify that Netflix was available as well.

Exhaustive review! And by 'exhaustive,' I mean it's now 2:20am. Sleep time now.

Nice review, I want one less now. Definitely going to wait until they iron out the UI response time, that would definitely annoy me.

Also, I wouldn't be too quick to call their tablet offering dead. So long as their tablet has access to the Android market, they're fine. Savvy customers not already brand-married to Amazon will recognize the advantage of [...] Google's Android app store without the Amazon middle-man taking his cut, etc.

It's my understanding that B&N, like Amazon, offers their own restricted app store for their tablet devices.

Well, that's disappointing.

Fortunately, it's already jail broken and ready to connect to the real android app store.

Does anyone happen to know if there are any apps that support .cbr & .cbz comic files to be accessed on the kindle fire? It works great for the ones I've purchased through comixology on my phone but so far I can't seem to find anything to view others. :(
