So yeah, all I have right now is a wall mount, 2 shelves and 2 speakers mounted in the ceiling. Oh and the speaker wire and 2 HDMI cables are run through the wall to where the shelves will be. I am getting an LED TV 46-55 inch range, havent decided exactly which. It'll be 3D capable, have built in Wifi and be able to stream Pandora and Netflix. Beyond that what do I need? This is what I've come up with:

A/V Receiver, Universal Remote, DVD/Blueray Player, my HD cable box. Am I missing anything? More speakers for the front?

This is the stuff I have:

Polk Audio RC60i In-Ceiling / In-Wall Speakers (Pair, White)

This is the newly constructed room, not painted yet obviously ;) TV in the center flanked by 2 of the shelves

Here you can see the Ceiling mounted speakers, the larger circles are the speakers, smaller are highhat lights.

Yeah I'm more interested in it being a nice open playroom. At night you can watch some TV. I'm not too picky with media, doesnt have to be ideal conditions or a 10 foot tv. I barely watch any TV now as it is, but it will be nice to have for company and the occasional movie.

You should probably plan on getting some 3D glasses. Active shutter or passive (I've had three and I hate passive..)?

I'd make sure to have a small table near an outlet by the seating to recharge any portable devices.

Well then what will you be doing with the windows? My great room has a lot of windows too, but I have plantation shutters that come in handy when I want to watch something when it's bright outside.

Good ideas thanks. As for the windows, undecided at the moment. Some kind of shades but not sure what yet.

Blackout shades and some kind of curtain (to hide the blackout shade :p )

Covering up that glass is not just about keeping the light out (or more accurately having a consistent lighting level for ideal picture quality). It will also help with audio.

Here's a chair left over from the last time the Doctor redecorated. Maybe you can find a use for it.

Just a few suggestions.
Make sure, if you can, that you pad behind the in-wall speakers to minimize sound loss. Surround them with some kind of foam or styrafoam. I agree with the darkening shades or shutters. Also, while those shelves are nice to look at, make sure the kids, and anyone else in the house, are perfectly aware to be careful when putting DVD's or games in. I've installed these shelves and have had a few break since people tend to put heavy receivers and all sorts of things on them from weight and downward pressure.
How are you getting power up to the TV? Paintable molding or a relocation kit like this:
http://www.ramelectronics.net/manufacturers/datacomm/50-3323-wh-kit/prodDAT00004.html
This will hide the cables as well and it's VERY easy and safe to install. Just follow the directions. :-)
One last thing. With all the windows, I would suggest a large wall hanging or picture somewhere in the room. I assume your going to carpet the floor, so that will help as well. I would also suggest a darker or off-white flat color for the paint.

OH and add a second HDMI cable and a run of cat5e or cat6. Ya never know :-)

Hope some of this helps.

Thanks! So far I'm very happy with it. Hope to get the paint all finished and then the carpet guy in soon.

The entertainment part is underway now! I have the entertainment center built, the receiver and speakers in place, the basic wiring just about done. Going to need a hand getting the flatscreen in there, hopefully this week my pops or brother can stop by and help.

Once that's in I'll just move the FIOS box and BluRay in, oh and the couch... then I should be in pretty good shape. Oh good call on the blackout shades Nev, thanks.
