Sheesh, I knew I should have watched the last two minutes. Sounds exciting, but not sure I could have handled it after last night's Wisconsin game ...

I've some horrendous BS calls this year. But nothing so far beats the call in the Texans/Falcons game.

That was *not* a fumble. His hand was clearly going forward with control of the ball. As soon as the hand moves even a little bit forward... its a forward pass, and its incomplete.

**** zebras.

My feeling is that his abilities work well in the last five minutes of a game or whatever, when a defense is trying to not give up the big play, but has trouble covering the short stuff - including runs. And when he runs in the fourth quarter, he has the conditioning to be a power back, at that point, which is a dangerous thing. And, he has a good enough defense to keep them in the game, which his arm (or the rest of the offense) can't do. So, sure, it looks great, and he wins, but I think you can make the argument is that he wins when he has to, but shouldn't need to. That being said, I have no idea if he put up great conventional QB numbers or whatever today, but I somehow doubt it.

What a crazy day of football. NO/Tenn, Denver/Chicago, Dallas/NY. Awesome stuff.

/auc WTB [GIANTS] @ [PACKERS] Playoff Tickets! Paying well. When this happens, I'm serious. I know someone here will be able to grab some.

I don't think the Giants will get that far. They'll be the #4 seed if they win their division. That puts them against Detroit or Atlanta (Probably)

I'd bet they're one and done.

They are better than either of those teams right now.

Not without a defense they aren't.

In other news, officiating continues to be awful.

Look, I understand the need to protect players and QBs and stuff... But some of these ticky tack "Roughing the Passer" calls need to stop. I can understand flagrant hits on QBs that hav4e thrown the ball, but jesus, let them play **** football.

A hug to the leg isn't "Roughing the Passer". What James Harrison did to Colt McCoy... Was.

Also, Larry Fitzgerald is awesome.

I dunno about the Harrison hit. Was McCoy a runner or a passer? McCoy was out of the pocket and moving toward the line of scrimmage with the ball under his arm, a runner; then he saw Harrison and McCoy quickly became a passer again. It was definitely "helmet to helmet" (a legal hit on a runner), but was it "roughing the passer"? Like many rules it needs to be better defined.

If the NFL is serious then they need to simply ban helmet-to-helmet entirely.

How are you going to police that?

It wouldn't be a game I'd enjoy any more.

You don't attempt to police it. You remove the facemask from the helmet, and it begins to police itself.

Same way you police holding. It happens on every play but you flag the most blantant/flagrant examples. Or as Rynar suggests, remove the face mask.

Along those lines the NFL needs to start requiring those concussion reducing helmets that Rodgers has.

McCoy threw the ball, one mississippi, Harrison lowered his head and launched into McCoy.

He deserves whatever punishment he gets. Up to and including a multi-game suspension.

I was gonna vote for no helmets, or soft helmets, but I like this idea, too. Heck, I think ESPN and TV would be all over that - much better for those intimate closeups, etc.

Funny, I was looking through old newspapers from the 1930s the other day, and noticed an article about the death of a college football player. What was crazy is that the article characterized it as the "first death of the season," or something like that. Like they pretty much expected that a bunch of guys would die playing football during the year.

And the coaching carousel gets started early this year...

Del Rio
Haley
Sparano

All gone bye bye now. Who's next?

Caldwell? Spagnolo? The Tampa Bay Guy?

Don't use your helmet as a weapon to attack othe players heads with, and we never have to be having this conversation in the first place. If the players union had any balls, they'd revoke his membership. If the league had any balls, they would end his season.

No, I disagree that McCoy was indicating anything but that he was a runner.
Peter King wrote:
McCoy, by my count, took five strides with the ball tucked under his arm, and when he and Harrison were about one stride apart, McCoy quickly pulled out the ball and tossed it to a receiver for a completion. I agree with what Harrison said postgame -- when he was coiling to hit McCoy, the quarterback appeared to be a runner.

Additionally, I find it hard to believe that after McCoy threw the ball you could count "one mississippi" before Harrison hit him. The Harrison didn't even take one stride between McCoy throwing the ball and the impact. I agree that Harrison should have aimed lower, but that's the extent of it.

I'm with Aethien, go back to leather helmets. I can't get behind the idea that no facemask would have done anything but cause McCoy to have a broken face. Surely, they shouldn't have no facemasks and "concussion reducing helmets". The idea is to take away the weapon, not cause the weapon to be lethal.
