I had to make 5 triple-lane changes in the span of a quarter mile in order to stay off the Turnpike.
I'M NOT PAYING YOU SH*T, *****!

They sure try. On the other hand, maybe it's for your own good. Driving 1-9 was a bit scary. Although I did pass what I can only assume is a fine scarfing establishment by the name of "Good Eats".

NJ - the state you have to pay to leave.

There's one state that has a non-toll road highway crossing out of NJ, but I can't remember which. I do know that all my friends ***** about having to drive through Delaware because it costs something 30 bucks.

Truth. I was at Fort Dix a couple years ago for training, and the last day there I was going to my mom's house in Delaware after we were dismissed to spend the evening with her before driving home the following day. I don't remember if it was 30 bucks, but the toll was horrendous and so was the traffic. I hate that **** state.

LOL. Delaware has, I don't know, a couple of miles of I-95, and they are milking it for all it's worth.

I know ...

It's **** stupid. From the last time I drove through Delaware, I remember paying more in tolls on that 7 or 8 miles of I-95 than I did on the rest of the road combined.

The Turnpike between Orlando and Miami constitutes more highway and will cost you ... $1.70 round trip.

Yeah, I drove from Colorado to NJ and paid less than I do every time I have to cross DE (it's between both my and my wife's families).

The DE turnpike can be avoided by exiting on 1A I-95 West or 109A if on I-95 East and traversing from DE 279/2/4/Elkton Rd. to DE 896/4/Christiana Parkway to 896/S College Ave. The exits lie on opposite ends of this path and the exits straddle the toll plaza. You can see the route easily on Google maps for an easy visualization. The route is maybe 10 minutes out of the way and if traffic is backed up on the plaza, it can be the same or quicker.

I am approaching the four digit range in tolls saved by taking this route.

Who pays to drive on a freeway... Aren't they all free?

I mean, how do people commute around there?

I-95 runs N/S, not E/W, administratively. Which way do you mean for which?

Yes, though I think it's cheaper for commuters. Still - cost of doing business.

D'oh you're right. 109A is the Southern point for Northbound traffic and 1A/B is the Northern point for Southbound.

Tell me that's at least yearly.

I couldn't imagine having to pay an extra thousand dollars just to get to work.

Gas, vehicle, wear and tear, vehicle maintenance, registration fees, emissions tests, car insurance, tolls.

Not all of that is just to get to work and back, but a lot of it is.

Throw in lunches, work clothes, and other such items, and it's very expensive to have a job.

It was ~$10 round trip to take the BART into San Francisco from the East Bay, or 5$ toll on the Bay Bridge and the cost of parking.
