Its no secret I'm not a huge fan of libertarianism, but has anyone read any of his books?

I read Brightsuit McBear when I was younger, but have not read the rest of the series. I enjoyed the book (chronologically its like 8 in the series)

The more I read of his personal writings the less I like him, but I did enjoy the first book. But I imagine a number of you actually would approve of his politics, so might as well share him.

I try to keep the author's/producer's/actor's/director's politics separate from my entertainment, otherwise I'd likely find myself cutting out 90% of the entertainment I enjoy.

Well the books are pretty preachy on the subject I think is my point.

One can read Orson Scott Card without getting into his politics. Its hard to do so with L. Neil Smith.

The author being "preachy" would probably rule it out as well.

Preachy turned me off after reading several of his books. I enjoyed them until I got to the sermons, or rather, the sermon. Same sermon over and over.

The writing was decent and the stories were fun, but he was a one trick pony in that he couldn't stop with the libertarian politics in every book, even if he didn't call it that. Of course I only read about three of them, so he might have gotten better.

Sounds unbearable. I prefer to keep my politics separate from my entertainment.

It also makes you look silly when you create fancy escaptist stories involving your political leanings.
